I am thinking about adding a top off system to my tank. Has anyone put one in a biocube? As you would imagine.. space is an issue. I am going to be putting media baskets in my middle compartment and I have a simmer in the first. I am kinda stuck using the last chamber.

For my 14g Biocube, I made a bracket that force fits over the top of the third chamber. The bracket holds the float switch. A relay, Aqualifter pump and quart bottle for the rest. I have my water level near the top.

Could it work in the third chamber? Do you have any pics?

Depending on $$$, a perialistic dosing pump would be a great option.

you could assemble one out of a tom's aqualifter, an extension cord, and a float switch., or go the uber low tech way and use a glass carboy with 2 lines one to siphon and one at the level you want the water to be at that lets in air to allow the siphon to work. the most important part is that the bottle isn't flexible.

jbj is simple and reliable if you hook it up properly, I've had mine over a yr and I bought it used. no problems (knock on wood) if you look online one place has them for$65. so also cheap if look around.

I currently have the jbj ATO on my BC29. The float switch will easily fit in the 3rd chamber, the unit can sit within the stand next to your top off water, or mounted to the back. I got the BC29 from a fellow reefer that was getting out and the JBJ ATO came with it. It's worked fine, so no need to change it up.
In the past I used a perialistic dosing pump. This required a little bit of tuning to figure out my level of evaporation, but was pretty easy. Also comes in handy if you dose kalk with your top off water (which is what I did at the time). I preferred the dosing pump for kalk vs an ATO like the jbj as it doesn't dump as much water at one time. Some people prefer dosing at night though, so all depends on what you want to do with your tank.
There are also "poor man" ATO by having your top off water above the water, then just doing a gravity feed with some airline tubing. A simple twist valve or tying a knot in the tubing (REALLY "poor mans" solution) will regulate the drip rate.

Just saw the jbj at tt. That thing is compact! I like it. They want 85 though.

Try a Tunze osmolator. The float switch is attached to a magnet for easy placement.
