Thanks for sharing your shrimping spot and technique with us! It was so fun and easy. I've been feeding at least 10 a day to the seahorses for the last couple of days (had to wait for parasite pellets to be eaten first) and I still have tons left as you can see!http://www.dominopads.com/grassshrimp2.jpg

oh and they usually don't fly around like that all the time. They rest a lot. But they get excited when the pellets (the non medicated kind lol) hit the water

oh and does anybody need a Texas Tiger Tail shrimp? I accidently brought one of those back but it's too big for any of my critters to eat it

I would think so. All you have to do is gently rake your net over the grass beds (don't rip out the grass obviously) and you'll catch a ton!

... how did you ID it? Is there a good reference site?

I've got a weird looking shrimp in with my grass ones from the collection trip

Also, how long did you feed the parasite pellets before you were comfortable feeding them? I've been using the anti bacterial pellets, then will switch to the anti parasite.

I just feed them for 3 days (don't offer anything else -the anti parasite pellets are last choice for sure if they can eat anything else). After the last pellet feeding I wait a day before feeding them to the seahorses assuming that by that time they already pooped out the meds

Josh called the shrimp tiger shrimp or tiger tail shrimp when we caught them.

this probably sounds horrible but: when I noticed the tiger tail shrimp was eating my grass shrimp I took him out and gave him to the chickens (because they kill stuff quickly and I figured they might enjoy a little seafood)

Same with the antibacterial pellets - they don't like them at all. I did those for three days; I'll do regular food now so they don't starve themselves resisting the meds.

What did the tiger shrimp look like? I've got a shrimp that's noticeably larger in all it's features, with enormous whiskers and spots on the tail.

Karin are the grass shrimp breeding in your tank or did you catch that many? It would be awesome if they are breeding! Free fish food. Well kinda.

according to the seahorse forum it's possible to breed them but takes forever to get them to feedable size so nobody really does it. I just brought back that many.

the tiger shrimp looks like a big big grass shrimp but with kind of stripey tail (I figured maybe that's why they call them tiger shrimp?)

yup :). I noticed on had made it into my display tank somehow. I fed him to the birds as well. he was in my tank for some time however because he was about 4 to 5 inches long. I know I saw him in my sump but once he was in the display it was time to go. I don't know how he managed to ride the return pump without getting chopped up LOL
