I've only used RKLs and like them.
From my initial look into this there's quite a price difference (the basic Apex seems to run around $450 versus $260 for a comparably equipped RKL)
I am guessing there has to be something significantly better about Apex to justify this difference but so far from using the RKLs over the last couple of years whatever that difference is I have not missed it. :)

another thing how does the networking wrk on this system...I mean my DT is sitting in my living room and closest computer i hve is upstairs in my room...Does the apex or rke needs a computer to get programmed or it gets programed itself on its own unit....
second how can i run a internet through it wihout hooking the ethernet from my modem since its no way close to it....
as u guys can tell i am too dumb in computers:what_smile:

I've never owned either but I think you'd need to either buy an additional add-on module or hook up a wireless bridge via ethernet. You may also need another bridge if your router or modem doesn't have built in wireless. You might also want to look at ethernet over power. That would allow you to hook it up to your router and have all the network traffic run over the power lines in your home. They're slow and not the greatest, but I don't see why you'd need a lot of bandwidth if all you're doing is monitoring stuff from your computer or over the internet.

the apex is more comparable to the reefkeeper elite. The neptune apex jr is comparable to the RKL. So price comparison one level against the other isnt fair. I have looked at both and cant remember why it was but I decided if I was to get one it would be from neptune.

oh that makes more sense then. the Lite version worked fine for me. I am guessing the Junior version would as well

I have the RKL. It is one of the best investments I have made to date. I don't know much about Apex but I find it hard to believe that it can do much more than the RKL.

If I were you, I would think about my "needs" and base my purchase on those. I purchased my RKL with power strip and thermometer (online) for $99. Hard to beat that price!

I think all they have is a ethernet port. Not very fun. All new controllers should at the very least have some form of wireless built into them. It would make me mad if they decided wireless was an "extra feature". Kinda like video games and DLC, just a poor move for profits.I hate not having a web interface, in this day and age it should be standard?!?

I went with Apex because of what I read about them online. I dont have mine yet but from what I read they come out with modules/upgrades much faster than RK. I also wanted to be able to control it wirelessly because I know we will have a couple week long vacations coming around and I dont want to have to worry about it so the lites were out of the picture for me. I there are a TON of things that can be done(with either) like creating storms and what not but I dont plan on that, at least right away. :)

I should be getting mine soon so I will keep you updated.
