Hydroid Schmydroid...

The hyrdroids in my tank are bothering my softies.
It's not the floating lifestage of hydroid but rather the kind that grows like plants.

Justahobby had a good idea there with removing them manually. That worked.
But they come back. :(

So next week I'll try two more things:

Keyhole Limpets

and

Nudibranch Learchis poica

I'll report back if any of these work.

I am guessing the Keyhole limpets would be good for on the rocks and the nudis would be better for crawling up the softies...

Do they look like Q tips?

I removed them from my tank months ago and just yesterday I saw a few growing on my rock... I need them gone too!!!

no q-tips. Just the regular stuff that looks like a little plant with white tips. Like weeds

well here's an update. The nudis seemed okay and grew for awhile then disappeared. Probably up into nudi-heaven along with my expensive Berghias...

The keyhole limpets did good work. I don't see any hydroids, BUT... now the keyhole limpets have moved over to eating the gorgonians they were supposed to protect from the hydroids! Grrr. Wish they would have moved over to aiptasia... no gorgos...

I noticed a limpet on the bottom of this gorgo a day ago and thought: "oh he must have found some hidden hydroids! Good job little fella!"
Then I look again today and realize he's eating the gorgo itself!!! :(

Ouch, that had to hurt! Not sure if my 'droids are the same as yours, but they come in go in cycles, but they never get to the levels of bothering the corals. But, then again, I don't have any softies in my tank.

the problem is the droids like rots and BBS. And so do my NPS gorgs...
So where in other systems the droids would starve themselves out, my system seemed to support them just fine for unlimited periods of time...
