I am looking into getting an auto feeder. Does anyone have any info or experinence using one. I need one that is flexible on the amount of food it despenses and how often it feeds a day. And one that is reliable enough to leave in charge of feeding while I am on vacation. I feed Dainichi baby pellets, so I hope that won't be a problem using an auto feeder.

Love my Fishmate feeder because I can feed up to 4 times a day and it takes 2 hours to fully dispense each chamber (rather than dump it in all at once). It's perfect for my gorgonians and anthias. Other fish might prefer the dumping it all at once?

We also have a couple of Ehiems we use and are happy with. If you get Stangchris's you are welcome to come look at our directions to learn how to use it.

I have 2 Eheims. One works, the other doesn't. Maybe because it fell in once...

Love my Fishmate feeder
Really? I bought 2 of these and an Ehiem for the babies before my trip last weekend and they would have starved it wasn't for Ace! One of the Fishmates fell in the tank (fully loaded with food for the next 3 days). Neither of the Fishmates worked (might just be me being too stupid to figure them out though). The Ehiem works like a charm and is the same feeder I have had on my display for over a year now. If you want to control exactly what you feed and have a slow delivery of that, the Fishmate is the way to go (if you are smarter than me), as long as you plan on refilling it after every 14 feedings. The Ehiem I only have to check andor refill about once a month. Karin, when I come back to this world again after my deadline, you will need to help me figure out my Fishmates.

My fishmate fell in once. I took it all apart to dry it out and crossed my fingers. All the little clock bits are plastic, and relatively simple to take apart and put back together. I did have to use some vinegar to clean up where the batter was. It took a while to dry completely, but now it works like a charm.
It might not be the best for long vacations, but I don't know that I would be comfortable with any feeder for a long time. It helps, but nothing's better than having someone check on things for you once in a while.

Lorraine I had to build an acrylic feeder holder because yes the legs on the Fishmate are not reliable enough IMO:
