Extending the length for threads under "What's New"

It seems too often that in the morning I click "What's New" and there is either one thread or no threads that show up. Is there a way to adjust the duration so that threads show for longer before getting buried in their perspective forum?

If that happens to me I click "mark threads read" then click "whats new".
It will tell you that there are no new posts. at the end of that alert it says click here for posts in the last 24 hours.

I do the same thing I wonder if we could get a button added in between new post and New Events that is post in last 24 hours?
