OK so I am starting to debate swapping out my halides for these. Does anyone use the newer 3g 200w units? They say they can cover a 3'x3' cube which would be awesome. I know they aren't the high output leds but from what Ive read online they seem to put out pretty good PAR numbers.

I do not have any experience with the 3g units. I had the 1g 120W unit.

I liked it, but what I wanted was the ability to have better control and less power consumption.

I have been scouring the web reading reviews. The problems I have heard so far is the heat sink being small and the fans being loud. Marc(Melev) posted that the new fans are very quiet and that each shipment Chris gets in is slightly evolved. I think if I still feel this way by the weekend I am going to order three of these and go LED instead.

If they will work then go for it. I looked at running the 3g units for my build as well.

You ended up with AI units though correct?

Yes. I went back and forth on my decision. I do not think I would have regretted the evolutions I just wanted to have the ability to control my lighting better. I spent so many years with years with ..... Lights come one... more lights come on..... lights go off. I wanted variation.

I've got the ufo led fixture and don't hear fans. Down fall is one cord n one switch. So lights come on n lights go off.

I was wondering if you ended up buying one afterall? The 200w unit comes with two cords for the white leds and the blue leds to be controlled seperately but I dont think I can fade them in and out.

As far as I know you can't Kevin. My 1g was the same way. 2 cords. Texreefer has my old light. It worked great and looks good for his application.

After seeing Kristy's evos on their hex, and Stephen's AI fixures, I'll be going with AI if I make the switch. The ability to control the 3 colors were the selling point for me.
