I don’t like my algae scraper.

I started with a mag float, but it was getting a bit worn and instead of buying a replacement pad I decided to try the new Aqueon Algae Cleaning Magnet.

It sounded like a great idea. Accidentally break the magnetic hold? The Aqueon Scrubber won’t float away!

“The bottom weighted scrubber falls straight down after separation. The bowed bottom weight allows the scrub pad to rest above the gravel for easy retrieval while reducing the risk of scratching the aquarium walls.”

They got the weight right; it doesn’t slam into the substrate kicking up sand like I feared. The problem is the way it lands and spins. Every time I have it pop loose, it spins and lands with the back side facing the glass, not the scrubber side. It irritates me so much. I play with it trying to get it back the right way, but then I risk getting sand in the way and scratching the glass.

I want to go back to my mag float. But I don’t want to buy a new one when replacement pads are supposed to be available. Ya know, reduce, reuse, and all that jazz. But who has them locally? I *hate* spending shipping on something that costs under $5.
