I've got a three stage rodi from buck supply. I've had it hooked up in it's current configuration for the last five months, on all the time.
My last months water bill doubled. Is that an indication that my filters need replacing? This is the first time that my water has doubled in the last five months or so since hooking it up.
I leave the feed on all the time but its tied to a top off float in my top off container.

do you have a auto shut off valve also

No, nothing like that. From the source line I have a line to the filter, then on the right side of the RODI I have the waste into the tub wast line, and the other is attached to a float in the top off container.
Would that fit onto the left side of the filter?

If it's tied to the float valve and you don't have an autoshut off, does the waste line continuously drain? It's still odd that your water bill would double after 5 months. Pretty sure it's not your filters though. Especially since you've only had them 5 months.

IIRC Russ told me that you do need the auto shut off w/ float valves to prevent too much pressure in the canisters.

I have the little square thingy in addition to the float valve too. Bulk Reef Supply has a good video on how to install it.
But why would it change now and cause you more waste water.

Why not just check your TDS and go from there?

Lol... When I got home we checked the water meter while turning off te main feed.
Yep. The unit is continually making waste water despite whether filling up the top off.
Looks like I new one of those square thingies.
It's been set up like this for five months but I've had the unit for about two years now.

Yeah we have a regular reefer family going on here on MAAST, and milly don't think I'm over the fact that you're dating a non-reefer, much less that he doesn't own one of the LFS...

don't be mad at her Allan, every time I see Jason I drop hints about turning his fresh water to a salt water tank. soon he will cross to the dark side lmao

Oh don't you worry about that I've already told him we're changing it to a reef tank haha

I've got a three stage rodi from buck supply.
3 housings below the bracket + the RO membrane housing above the bracket = 4 stage...

???
Not sure what this is about. The auto shut off has nothing to do with controlling pressure in the housings.
The ASOV shuts off the flow of water to the RO membrane when some other device (e.g., float valve) stops the flow of purified water.

Why not just check your TDS and go from there?
The TDS levels in the tap water, RO water, or DI water really are unrelated to the potential that the system is continually running waste water to drain.

Hey - if your system was running like that for an extended period of time, your carbon block may be shot. Calulate a rough estimate of the number of gallons it sent to waste, and compare that to the chlorine capacity of the carbon block.

Hi Russ,
Yes, I have three cans below and a horizontal one above the mounting bracket.
Te float is actually in my topoff container. Up until about a month ago I was good to leave everything running. But about a month ago I started producing waste water continuously regardless of whether or not I was filling the top off or not.
Russ, not sure if it's the carbon or not but I've not changed anything in it in the last two years since I bought it from you.
Not that it matters but I installed a water softener in the basement about six months after getting the rodi from you.

Yeow. You are LONG overdue for a change of your prefilters (sediment filter and carbon block).
What is the TDS of your tap water? RO water? DI water? What does the gauge read when the system is running?
The ASOV isn't working becuase one of the following:
ASOV needs to be replaced, and/or
check valve needs to be replaced, and/or
float valve is leaking.

looks like we found your algae problem !!!

I will head over to your site today to order the filters. The float isn't leaking or not I'd have water everywhere. So it must be one or both of the other reasons.
Tap water - 261 ppm
Rodi - 13 ppm
Chris, I don't have an algae problem. Wish I did as I think it would be easier to deal with than the cyano :)

Didn't catch the di part. The 13 ppm is what is coming out of the entire unit. How do I check just the ro? Blue tube?
Blur tube is 27 pm.

So we know your DI resin went bad some time ago and needs to be replaced.
If you have a Premium Series System, you can access the RO water by opening the DI bypass valve that comes off the left hand side of the system. Check your instructions, call with questions.

Blue tube? The blue tube should be your feed water (tap water). Do you need a set of instructions?

Lol, I probably have the lines mixed up color-wise. I used the blue to indicate drinking water. It is almost a direct line out of the top, that flushing chamber that sits on top is where it's connected.
Let me take a pic...
http://tapatalk.com/mu/6008b7e8-c1e3-874d.jpg
I'm holding the line that doesn't go anywhere.
It's connected to the right of the di resin. The left side of the di goes to my top off station.
I don't see that valve assembly. Just the three filters on the bottom and the one on top that I call "the white thing".
BuckeyeHydro

The "white thing on top" is the heart of your system - the RO membrane. The tube in your hand is where you would get RO water before it goes to the DI .
Not sure what you mean by "flushing chamber."

The float isn't leaking or not I'd have water everywhere.
If it were leaking, the leak would likely be coming out INSIDE your container...

Which chamber? The White Thing?
I'm heading over to your site now, which filters do I need to make my problem go away? :)

Okay, I found the replacement filter set.
I've got it ready to order, but I want to order what ever is necessary to fix my leaking problem. I've left my number and will wait till I hear from you before completing my order.
thanks for all the help, Russ... and everyone else that has been helping me work through this issue.

You know what? I saw that, but I don't seem to have one of those on my unit currently. I know that's what you told me to purchase earlier. But it looks like something that I currently have is broken, and I'd like to get that fixed as well.
That thing doesn't belong inside the White Thing does it?
