Looks fun but probably wouldn't be effective. After taking out my rocks, blow torching them to crispy nothings, and still having babies sprout up I have decided this is the only sure way.... just BEWARE: They could eat coral too!

They've been around for some time now. I forget who originally created the first one but SWC is mass producing them now.

Sounds fun. But it's more expensive than I expected! Wow. Also it says not to submerge it past the maximum water line. But I don't see what the waterline " is...

I am sort of having the same concern about this as with the other stuff:
Sure that one dies but will it be stunned/die fast enough to not release tons more planula into the tank before it's demise?
I've treated a few (just had a few) in my tank and the big ones did die. But now I have tons of babies cropping up in the substrate. NOT cool.

So whatever I use to get rid of it next will have to kill or stun on contact before any babies are released

Reading the instructions on this thing where you have to prod it several times - that doesn't seem like instant kill to me...

Boiling hot water in a syringe. Works like a champ. DO NOT TRY TO BOIL YOUR RO/DI THOUGH!

boiling water works best, ive boiled ro/di water before with no ill affects. now if you super heat water in a microwave and just a drop of cold water is introduced thats bad, it will explode out. but yea i even use ro/di in my coffee maker, amd humidifier on my cpap.

Why do you say not to boil your rodi water?

I would assume that this would be the risk involved with boiling RO/DI water

That's exactly what I was afraid of. Kill the big one and release tons more...

I used to have a massive infestation with aptasia back when I didn't know they were bad. I did the boiling water trick.. no luck they just sprouted everywhere. Also use the aptasia killer stuff from the LFS. After about a year of frustration with aptasia the only solution I could find was to frag all of my corals off the live rock and then dip the rocks in fresh water for a day, let stand and kill them for two weeks. (just a dip wont kill it, just a few days wont kill it). I started with 1/3 of my tank and worked around starting on one side and moving to the other. Any rocks which were too populated with corals I would isolate and hit the aptasia with the aptasia cure. Anything in the sand bed I would suck away during water changes with my suction tube. After about four months or so of doing all of that I have now taken care of the problem. I haven't seen any in a few weeks, but every so often I see one in the sand bed.

My advice is kill your live rocks. Nuke it from orbit, only way to be sure. quarantine all of your coral purchases in an isolated spot of your tank in the sand bed. Don't buy corals from the LFS if their tank is infested (one in town I got my aptasia from is pretty bad)

I found two ways that worked for getting rid of aptasia.

1. Pinned some Algae (I think it is called Spirula) down ontop of one till it moved out onto the algae, and then discarded both.

2. Placed two pieces of small rockwork that had nothing important on it in the fresh tank with hungry guppies. They think aptasia is yummy!

Haven't seen any in 3 months.

Just my two cents

i am still dealing with the smaller aptasias and let me tell u hot water does wrk like a charm...i dnt boil r/di water just regular tap water...few cc of tap water is not gne pollute my tank....u hve to aim the needle into the stem of aiptasia and keep injecting that boiling water in it untill u see it dying melting and hanging off the rock...the only problem is getting to the small ones with no visible foot or stem..i hve killed atleast dozens like this in one day...it takes time and frustration but it works...
