need help with my orange monti plate . Its about 8 in wide . My cal 350, alk 4.5 , nitrite 0, ph 8.2 are all ideal . My nitrate is .05 (close the the top so not that bad . Main tests fine API kit and reef master for alk, cal. I have not checked mag .

I have sps, lps , zoa , inverts etc . All zoas look great and about 36 hours ago notices a white spot in the middle of my monti . I recently aquired this piece wk ago, it is not glued and has been stressed from being moved around .

I am currently using tap water (long story) , have 1250 going across the top:750 other corner going towards middle of front glass:250 behind rocks korilia's , 9w uv, sump w bio balls and rubble rocks on bottom, CPR skimmer hob skim, 36watt marineland reef light and a useless ( just read on it marineland double bright) , 150 -200lbs rock .

How is the movement ? Where should I keep the monti now ? Any advice on how to treat this or if I should just leave it the hell alone .

Also I need full access to this site , I paid 2 days ago .

Sorry

. Is that too much movement or is more needed ?

Patience is a great virtue. Sometimes it takes a little time. It will happen though.

Any pics of the damage? Any chance the detritus is settling in spots and that is causing it? Did you dip prior to putting it in your tank? Acclimate?

did it fall on top of another coral.

I have done my reading and my take on it would be cause it has fallen and been blown around in the tank seval times over this past week. I have used my hands and tongs to get it back in place. It has fallen on a huge leather and probably has touched a couple others considering there are over 50 different ones. I believe I have enough filtration with the sump and back up whisper 60 working to clean the detritus. I recently sold my cpr hob skimmer and was upgrading to a really nice aquaC EV-120 (Which is aparently purchased broken after trying to set it up) . I added Magnessium from aqua vitro last night. I did dip it in distilled water water for 10 seconds before entering the tank. I have lugols solution but am weary of trying that yet with my corals yet with my experience unless instructed to.

Should I consider fragging the Monti and just make 5-6 nice 2 in frags or let it take its corse? I have never fragged anything but 1 zoa which was fairly easy.
How important is the skimmer if I am not running it for a week? Will that be ok?

Alot of people have trouble with SPS and leathers due to the leathers shedding.

If you have that many leather and softies in the tank I would run the skimmer as much as possible or getting it fixed as soon as possible. If the monti has fallen and contacted other corals along with your fingers that is more than likely the culprit as you have mentioned. Is the spot growing or appear to be the same?

I think your equipment list is fine to keep the monti. As Erik mentioned above, there can be difficulties with softies and sps together.

A pic would be helpful too. Is your alk 4.5 KH? Counting drops method?

I am not sure what lights you have and if you have enough to keep SPS.

Mixed reefs such as yours could benefit from a dedicated carbon reactor to take out the by-products of chemical warfare.

And with monti caps, I think you can pretty much blast them with flow, but not so much to peel tissue! Good luck.

So the monti appears to not have spread any more than a inch dia. I recently noticed the white was starting to turn green now. Any idea on what I should do. The back appeared green as well. I am not sure if this was a result of me not running a skimmer for 5 days or not. Any suggestions.

might be algae forming on dead skeleton

If its algea should I be concerned? The polyps still come out on all the rest. Should I consider fragging the coral and making it like 5 smaller ones? Dip the coral. . .

If it is algae you can keep blowing it off with a baster. It is up to you if you want to frag it. I have had several sps that have had parts die of only to regrow later over the dead skeleton.
