How do you clean a filter sock? If you can, or do you just replace them?

We just put them on the rinse cycle in the washer. No soap or bleach. Just rinse and spin.

since they need to be cleaned at least once a week do people really replace them (as in throw them away and buy a new one all the time?)
when I used the filter socks I washed them in the washer (no detergent)

sounds good, i will try them in the washer. I have two pair, i washed them outside with a hose, but that never got them clean enough for me.

When I used filter socks I would agitate them in a bucket of water and then run them through the washer on rinse cycle a coupe of times and let them dry. Seemed to work ok. I used 2 at a time and had 2 extra to replace for the cleaning cycle.

I have 5 that I change out. I put a clean one in about every 4-5 days then wash it in the washing machine with warm water and no cleaners.

Mine never really get "clean". The still look dingy after the rinse cycle. I was actually contemplating cleaning them outside with the garden hose.

We've thrown ours in the wash with a little bleach, then do a followup cycle with just clean water, with no ill effects. This was recommended to us a long time ago and never had any problems with it.

I have heard that as well Kristy. I think Brian (GreenMako) did it that way. As long as you rinse them well it should be fine.

I wash them with bleach in washing machine. Then air dry and sit for a few days so that any bleach residue will be gone. Being doing it this way for years.

Not sure about bleach? Then try this, pour some bleach in a cup, let sit for 24 hours and you will notice the bleach smell is gone. Bleach does break down out in the open as well as in direct sunlight in a short punt of time.

Vinegar would probably be a safe and effective detergent substitute.
