check lowes dude....Rick recently turned me on to marble tiles from lowes. I picked up the small square ones and large square ones for growout disks.

they do have some type of glue on the back of them...so I just soak them and then scrape it off.

Are they smooth? Seems like some coral would have a hard time attaching to grow

they aren't as smooth as glass and I don't know many corals that won't grow on glass aside from ones that wouldn't encrust anyways such as a lobo or frogspawn...do you?

I haven't had any problems with glue bonding to them either.

Me either and you get like 100 for just over a c-note.

Read an article awhile back where a coral grows faster over acrylic over the regular plugs. Probably misquoting a bit but the that is the same.

yeah...all the fragging we have been doing has become a bit expensive...and if our auctions keep selling for $5 we'll have to send the frag out without the plug...lol!!!!!! $8 a pop for 12 plugs...lol this is 144 tiles for about $9!

the are not all that smooth they have lots of pits in them for the glue to hold on to and its smooth but rough enough for the coral to encrust on easily. I have frags that have all grown over the tiles with no issues. corraline grows over it nicley and before you know it you cant see it anymore because it blens in with the rock no good.

I've seen some "custom" chalice disks made with two-part epoxy; mix it up, smash it down, and then shape it to the size you want. You could form a donut hole and put the chalice frag or plug in the middle. Then when it grows out it wouldn't have a big hump in the middle. So, if you only needed a handful then you could DIY!
