can anyone point me in the right direction in identifying this:

11134

Sorry the picture isn't better, my D70 is in the shop for repair.

We found this little guy on a piece of Tonga rock we got from one of the LFS sump rubble buckets. he is about 1mm in size, has a translucent pinkish center and little tiny arm extensions with little white tips to them. doesn't look anything like a glass anemone, but with all the different possible subspecies, who knows. this little guy looks more like a small zoo polyp or even a really small mushroom, but again, its so small i dont' know.

Anyone have anything like this in their tank?

Yep, and they will reproduce faster than you can ever believe. I can't remember the exact name for them, but look up "orange ball corallimorph" or something like that and see if the images match.

Anyhow, you definitely want to get rid of it or you will be plagued with these guys everywhere. Treat it just like you would an aiptasia. If you need tips on that, just ask!

Jett, I'm still not positive that "orange ball corallimorph" is really the right name for this pesty little critter, but it was my closest guess when I was having trouble with these. Other folks thought it might be a mojano, but it didn't look anything like those photos. Whatever the real name for it is, it's bad, reproduces really quickly, can sting other corals, and you want to get rid of it.

Here's my post when I had them taking over our tank:

Frankly, I don't care how good the "live rock" looks at a store. I'll never again introduce "live rock" into a tank without killing it first.

+1, Bill. Nice spot, Kristy.

When in doubt, burn it out.
