After a month of planning and saving, I finally have my biocube 29 :-) Here are some great pics of the tank before I add any livestock (already has 20lbs live sand and 20lbs live rock)

Mods that I have made for the tank include drilling chamber 3 with a 1" bulkhead for sump drain and 3/4" bulkhead for return. Replaced existing fans with new quiet ones, cleared out chamber 2 completely and added a CPR SR3 skimmer, cut the overflow larger between chamber 1 and chamber 2, and adding a UV sterilizer to chamber 3.

future mods I am planning,

1) making a fuge to fit the stand (thinking of trying to make one out of a 5 gallon bucket)

2) upgrade lights to get it up to 5 or 6 watts per gallon (looking at nanotuners)

3) add reefkeeper for management of tank

FYI: Watts per gallon is an old standard not really used anymore. With all these high powered LED's most are looking at PAR values. Also, the reflector behind you Metal Halide and T5 bulbs matters a ton. I've seen some nice home made sumps made out of Rubbermaid containers.

I love the little moonlights on BioCubes....looking good.

Keep in mind also, that once you upgrade the lights you'll have some new issues to deal with (unless you upgrade to LED)....heat. A sump will help combat that by giving you more water volume but just something to think about in case you haven't already.

Do you have any links to the rubber maid sumps?

I've seen them turned into trickle filters but never into a sump.

I agree with you on the go away from watts per gallon, however, because the BC is still stock with PC lighting, the metric is still really useful. I can't afford the cost of going to LED or T5 so I stick with what is easy for now. my thought right now is to add two more PC's.

Make sure you add fans, pcs run hot....
