I would gladly send membership fee. This is a great website. On another note, I do not believe I got a notice of the rule change. Did I receive one?
And now I have to send check in and wait for me to get for sale or trade status again. What is the eta if I mail a check in before I can get my status back?

the changes were posted in an announcement to all members on the boards. as soon as the treasurer gets the check in the bank, she will let the admin know to update your status. it usually takes a day or two at that point.

We ran out at the end of 2010 and decided it was a good time to do a redesign. New shirts should be available soon. We'll be sure to do an announcement when they're in.

I realized this change yesterday when I tried to post in the buy/sell/trade forum. So I went ahead pay for the membership through paypal last night. However my status still showing 'web member'. Could someone look into this and update my status so i can post frags for sale soon since I'll be going to Austin for a training this weekend and want to check if someone want some frags? Thanks

I'm sorry but I just don't get it... Why can't web members post for sale items anymore? Is this a way to try and get web members to pay for this site? To me a $25 yearly fee isn't much at all for such a great site. But why the change? I think it was great to see what people had to offer, charter member or not... Now the people who have problems with having to pay the yearly fee can't post WTS threads? I just don't get it... Sorry if I'm the only one here... Just doesn't make sense to me. That is unless it's a money thing for this site. Just my two cents...

we had a pole on this last year and charter members voted to make it available as a perk to charter members. As a web you may still respond to for sale to help you get items/equipment at lower prices offered to help you build up your tank. as i see it the $25 pays for it self pretty soon, vendor discounts, even with money made when you sell stuff. i think its a small amount to pay.

I agree its a very small amount for a very helpful tool. Not only are you getting great buys but meeting people in your area that share the same interest as you. And not to mention the AWESOME MEETINGS !

Listen, I understand the whole $25 is a small price to pay for such a good site... But to me it's pushing people away from posting good corals on this site for cheap. Instead of posting it here, I would think web members might just rather go on Craigslist and post on there for free... I'm not trying to argue with anyone, I love this site and I'm on here every day searching the forums. But the noticeable drop in "For Sale" threads is a bummer to me. Was just trying to voice my opinion... Cause I liked also having the charter member FT/FS section... I got a couple of things from there for dirt cheap and even free...

this explaination given by another board member in a pm to some one else with the same concerns sums up the reasoning:

The Board of Directors has been discussing and debating how best to address the issue of the For Sale forums for many months to find a solution that preserves the educational intentions of this site, protects the interests of the paid sponsors, and keeps MAAST from turning into a glorified craigslist. In fact, this was put to a forum vote and discussed among charter members last year and in the end the decision was to allow selling privileges only to MAAST's charter members.

To increase memberships and for support of the website it would be nice if we could pay membership fee at local stores who sponsor MAAST.
I think you could get more members. User friendly. And we could buy shirts too. At a discount of course. :^)

Sounds like a good idea in theory. I am not sure of the feasibility, but could be worth looking into for the future. Thank you for the idea and input. As a group we all look for ways to increase member participation and I know as a member I look for what I can receive for my membership.

Then you run at odds with the sponsors. Personally, if I wanted cheap corals, then I'd go to CL anyways.

That is a great idea, but, the only problem may be the Non-Profit Status. It may require that all due collections be processed directly by the club. Just guessin', I may be wrong. Besides, paypal is pretty convenient anyways.

That's a good idea. But I think it would end up slowing down the process significantly going through a 3rd party to receive the monies and issue the membership card, update status on the site, etc. Then what if the money was lost.... who is responsible?? I'm not saying sponsors are irresponsible, but it's for the same reasons money is sent to the treasurer and not any and all BOD's. Less handling = smoother transition IMO

that is definitely an idea worth looking into, thanks!

Absolutely! I am assuming you recently sent in a charter member payment and your change of status hasn't shown up yet? If it's a different situation, please send a PM so we know how to help you. In the meantime, I've called BOD attention to your inquiry so we can act on it quickly.

This is ridiculous for people wanting to get out of the hobby. I'm not paying you $25 for a year membership when I'm not going to use it.

All of the charter members are going to miss out on all the great stuff they could get from me. They won't know because I have to pay before I can sell.
