Let me preface the following with I didn't think of this. Scot did, a lurker that has about three posts :). I don't know why he is waiting to announce his tank build, but there you have it. :) Some of you have already met him and his wife Mel.

Okay, so he buys an anenome and clown for his tank that has been up for about six to eight months. He had one about a month ago that he lost to a power head... and his clowns never hosted.

This time he tried something different, and it worked. He told me all about it this morning. Remember that when I tried to get my clowns to host I attached a picture of a clown hosting an anenome to the outside of the tank to give the clowns an idea.

Yeah, Scot thought that was funny too.

He built an acrylic frame, wrapped it in screening material, caught the clown and placed it within the structure... which he placed over the anenome. Within the day the clown was hosting the anenome.

Scot mentioned that he will post some pictures today when he gets home.

Not sure if this has been tried before but it sure beats the heck out of printing a picture and posting it to the side of the aquarium... because that just doesn't work. :)

nice... nothing like making a fish do something. lol

Seems like a simple solution that we all probably could have used at one point or another.

what I did was get a clown algae clip and put it next to the anemone, my two tank raised clowns swam toward it, and within the next couple hours they were were hosting the anemone

Ok, although in is not as timely as it should be there are misc reasons why not and none of them matter, so I will refrain from mentioning...I have a attached a picture of the hosting cage. Once the clown stopped trying to find a way out - about a half hour, he started swimming in and out of the anemone. Within a couple of hours he was laying on the anemone as he was going to sleep for the night. Do not cut the screen too short. Make it long enough to hang 2-3 inches so you can drape if over the rock. That way the clown cannot swim out. Once I put the clown into the cage, which was upside down, I quickly, but carefully, rotated it over the rock and anemone. It took me three attempts.

That is great, I wonder if this would work to get a RBTA to attach itself to a piece of rock and stay put, so it doesn't start moving around and start messing with corals in other locations of the tank....I hadn't even run into this thread until now, but was thinking of making myself a little acrylic box to do just those things:

1. keep a darn RBTA to attach to a rock and stay put in a corner somewhere.
2. Get a clown to accept it's place in my little ocean.

Thanks for sharing Sam.

Three days with the clown algae clip attached to a rock close enough to the anemone to get touched by its swaying tentacles, but no love. My beautiful but idiotic onyx clowns never went anywhere near the clip, much less the 'nem. :at_wits_end:

Scott you really need to post pictures of your tank. I want to see how it looks after your LED build. Also great idea with the pairing box. I had the same idea a long time ago.... However I wasnt as refined as you and was a lot less successful. I tried it with a net and after the clown got out once or twice then I finally got him in there... however by next day he had died. Not sure if it was cuz he got stung (my original thought and why I no longer pursued it) or if it was stress, lack of water flow, too confined or he had brooklynia. Anyways great idea and good job on the success.

Also how dumb is your clown that he goes into a "trap" 3 times in a row just so you can flip it over on him? lol Or are you just that good

Wow, I've lost countless battles of will against my GSM clown. Way to outsmart the clownfish!

Kristy,

You know I never put it together until now. I work with Scot, and I can't tell you how many times when he was trying to get me to do something that he would say, "Chief, will you do me a favor and stand in this box".

HA! I was on the phone when I read that post and had to excuse my laughing!

Are you sure Scot doesn't say, "Hey chief, look there's a sandwich over there in that box!"

lol, my turn. My wild guffawing in cubicle city has alerted others to my presence.
