Hey guys, if you have never done this, you really ought to give it a whirl. It took almost no effort, was like getting a Christmas present after 36 hours, and watching everything from a 1/2'" Green Clown Goby to a 2+ inch Pajama Cardinal just assassinate live food is a real treat. I have enjoyed the experience and look forward to the next batch, which should be starting up any time now.

Agree that the experience of live foods can be invaluable, especially when you've got a fish that is a little tricky to get that vigorous feeding response we need. Glad you decided to give this a try!

I agree.... live food is so much more rewarding to watch. That a big reason why I love aggressive tanks.
Warmer temperature (close to 80) and keeping a light on should get them to hatch in 24 hrs. Cookery temps make for longer wait times. You can buy and amino acid supplement like selcon to enrich them. You don't have to worry about if the bbs are eating it. It will stick to their bodies and make for a healthier snack for the fish.

Hadn't thought of "marinating" them in selcon. What do you think of just putting the eggs directly into tank water (not the tank, just mixed aquarium saltwater) instead of soaking in fresh for an hour? Also, how about using reef saltwater, and not water laced with table salt? Also, if I wanted to take them just a step further, could you feed them with DTs or that powdered coral food?

I use a 2 liter bottle. 1/3 tank water and 2/3 ro.
