Sitting too deep Hm water? Do you know what the recommended water depth is for that skimmer? I'm assuming you've tried adjusting the water level tube? Make sure the needle wheel isn't blocked up. Is it a brand new simmer from the box?

Turn the nob all the way left, should be as low as it can go. Drop the water level in your sump till you get to the desired level. OR, stack some rocks under it and raise it up.

In the pic it kinda looks like you've got the skimmer haning off a tank/sump. Be very careful if this is the case, those little coralife skimmers overflow very easily. Don't get me wrong, it's a great little skimmer for the $$, but they are extremely sensitive to fluctuation in water level and on ocassion WILL overflow for no apparent reason at all.

I bought the same skimmer for up to 65 gallons brand new
And it seemed to leak from every little spot possible so I'd watch out for leaks

If you can't adjust the water level with the adjustment knob, then the pump may not be too low/high in the water.

So if I raise the pump it will raise the water right? How high do I want the water to be in the cup

the water level should be about half an inch to an inch above the red screw connection. i used the same skimmer for years and it is quite temperamental, but it is effective when adjusted correctly.
