I am creating this too keep track of our new addition...

Ok, so I purchased this big baby yesterday and all is going good so far...

3 hr slow acclimation and then he was placed in the display.. His color is Green with Yellow Tips.. Mouth was gapping open when we got it but this morning it was closed & deflated with some of its tenticles looking healthy & puffy..

His position in the tank is mid-tank right below the MP-40 with lots of flow currently under brand new T-5 Bulbs....

Clowns have yet to see it since it is on the opposite side of the tank from where they are... They are currently hosting a very large green carpet Haddoni... :) Lets see which one they will choose...

Day 1:

Actinics...

The clowns they still have yet to find the Ritteri...

Over all look of the anemone is Good.. Mouth is closed shut and really seems to like the flow as mentioned above... Tenticles, some (most) are puffy but still have a few that are deflated.. We did add an extra K3 for extra extra flow other than from just the MP40.

Pics coming soon...

Sweet! I'm still trying to nurse back the one from last week. It looked really bad...I'm treating it right now...u should try to talk to ur vet and see if you can get some doxycycline to treat it if it starts looking bad. High light and high flow........ill post some pics of mine this evening...1 week down 6 months more to go before I can relax

Im pretty sure TexReefer used to keep one of these. Beautiful anemone, but one of the most difficult to care for.

Look forward to your diary. I kept a Doreensis Anemone a little while and loved it. Just told my wife yesterday Im thinking of getting another because my clarkii clown is maturing and wanting to host my flowerpot coral.

Ram,

Thanks for the info.. :) But not really sure if I want to dose my tank with medication, thats something that I would be too afraid to do... I am sure you know what your talking about, :) and your vet does too but at this point since he is in our main display its a gamble...

Ray,

Knowing that these beauties are extremley difficult to care for, I understood what I was getting my self into.. :) I see it as a great addition to any tank but like you all mentioned very difficult to keep. All descriptions say for the "experienced reefer" I see this as an oppourtunity, to learn from any mistakes and take in any advice from those who have already been through this. We all got to start from somewhere.... :)

as far as i know, the one i had in the 240 is still alive and well in that tank with the new owner. if it is, that means it has been in captivity for about three years. it definitely picked the highest light and flow it could find in the tank.

Hi Eve, hope you didnt take that me saying they are difficult to keep is saying you could not. Just making a statement really, they can be touchy critters. Mikes was beautiful when he had his and It did well. I remember Ace's now that he mentioned it. Your aquarium is certainly large enough for it to find that happy spot. What color is yours?

Sorry eve...I meant to qt it in a 5 gallon bucket if it starts looking bad...from what I read when these things go they'll kill all fish except clowns.

lol.. its okay Ray, I understood... ;) They are difficult creatures and I even doubt myself, l:angel:ol. thus the reason I say "we all got to start somewhere" with this we all learn...

lol.. ok... and yes that is true with any anemone, it must be taken out asap... something I learned with any anemone, take it out before it starts turning itself inside out and dies...

...They are currently hosting a gigantica green carpet...

i didnt realize your carpet was an S. gigantea, i thought it was an S. Haddoni? in either case, you will have to watch them closely as there have been many issues reported with mixing carpets and ritteris.

Regarding Pics: Dont let the pictures deceive you, this is a beast... Its foot completely covers the rock that it has attached itself to and is hanging over the sides...

Im happy with my choices so far....

Update, Ritteri, has passed...

Not sure the exact cause as it "looked" healthy after a couple of days in the tank...it wasnt quite eating but did try to pull in some pieces of shrimp to only let it go once it got close to its mouth... :(

We Will try again in the future just not now...

it is just so tough to get a healthy one from the get go. sorry, i know how heartbreaking it can be when you put so much effort into keeping these touchy critters.

Sorry to hear Eve. I 99% sure the only thing that saved mine was the antibiotic treatment. It's doing great now, never deflates and is very full, both the foot and the tentacles. 1 month down, 5 more to go before i'm in the clear.
