Bought a pistol shrimp today drip acclimated home put him in the tank and he went and found a crevice in a rock and started malting. Now he is still alive but halfway out of his old skin and is just kind of laying there on it's side. Is he dying or is that normal while they malt?

Hmmm, I'm guessing you bought one of those mall red ones from GC?

Is it's antennas moving?
Dose it LOOK like it's trying to get out of it's old skin?

I've never seen mine malt. Just find the sheded skin.

Its laying on it's back now it was trying to get out of it's shell but I think I lost him :( first tank loss. Like 5 min after I put him in the tank he started shedding his shell I kind of thought that was weird I'll leave him for the night but I think he already perished

I read somewhere that all crustaceans are sensitive to iodide and iodine in the water. Too much will force them to "molt" and leave them vulnerable to any predator. Sorry if he's a gonner; I've always wanted a Pistol Shrimp and Goby pair...
