Acrylic replacement lens?

Hey guys, the light cover/lens in my biocube is looking pretty crusty. It is scratched, it is pitted, and it is stained. I have not contacted the manufacturer yet for a replacement, but I can't find parts anywhere online really anyway.

So, the question is, can I remove the bottom of this lens, then Weld-On a sheet of acrylic to the bottom to form a new lens? I will be going LED soon, and I really want that brilliance to shine through.

Any thoughts welcomed, any experience appreciated!
