For all current Corpus Christi members or members who are traveling to Corpus Christi I would like to invite you all to look at www.corpusreefclub.webs.com we are in the process of coming up with a frag swap soon with in the next month or less. So to allow you to keep up to date on that and with people locally that are wanting to buy and sell things in the corpus area.

you pay for much more than posting photos. totq is small perk for supporting this club with membership dues.

Tue, 6th Aug 2013, 11:22 PM
no one has permission to post in totq its a thread for the winner not a thread to post and vote. you can make a build thread in the appropriate tank size section. you run a forum you should know how to navigate one??
Zack
Tue, 6th Aug 2013, 11:28 PM
Yeah, only the TOTQ comitte has permission to post there, it's basically a tank chosen 4x a year to be featured, everyone can make a build thread.

Yes, but the forum I'm used to is Austin Reef Club. The way the do photo contest are " this month the color is red, take a picture of something red in your aquarium and post it." Than in the last two weeks they take the photos and put them into a poll and have people vote on the winner, no cost for posting in the section any one and every one can join. That's the same way I have it on my site.
So your saying that the totq is just a random aquarium that the moderator pick from every one?
Big_Pun
Tue, 6th Aug 2013, 11:35 PM
there are many photo contest in photography section through out the month. you should look around here more before making comments.
fuzzybob4
Tue, 6th Aug 2013, 11:41 PM
I figured that's their was because on the home page it says tank of the mont and under photography it has other ones, I was just saying that I would post one for the totq if I could, but it seemed I have missed some where as to how the tank of the quarter works.

ARC and maast are two different clubs that have two different ways of doing things. ARC also has paid membership and paid membership benefits.
Also, TOTQ committe picks the winners, not the moderators and it's not randomly picked.

Well yes I know they are two different sites both are forums with memberships, and the memberships are different well. but like I said be for I must have missed how totq works.

Ok I read over the whole thing, and I understand why to have a membership: so people can get first dibs on something someone is selling or like having your tank in totq if you're winning something that will hep your tank or like a discount to a LFS.
I live in corpus as do the people that are probably reading this, I know their might be one or two of them that think yeah I'll pay $25 so that I can get the discount on the LFS or online store because I travel up their every couple of weeks, but for the common person who does not travel to SA every couple of weeks or every other month to use the member ship to go to the meeting or Use the discount, they won't pay $25 to submit their aquarium.

You're really missing the point of maast if that's all you think charter membership is for. Sure we get deals and can sell but it's all about supporting an orginization that helps the community of reefers in the area in general. Charter fees help us support a large forum like this and put on events and have speakers come to educate our members.

so dont, its your $25 bucks, to me its much more than perks. it keeps this site going and all great info around here and help from the great members. sorry most of us are in san Antonio but thats how it goes. im pretty sure you wont mind san Antonio people ordering from your store when you get it going, lots of us travel to surrounding cities to purchase things cause we love seeing more lfs.

I know I'm not going to spend $25 to have the membership, because I can not use it. The only good I would get out of it would to be able to join in the totm, totq and toty.
Im sorry to make this such a big deal about a photo contest I just think everyone should be able to participate not just payed members.

Fuzzy,
There are vast differences between this forum and yours. Our overhead alone makes it necessary to ask members to support the organization. It's not free, and wouldn't be with our bandwidth.
MAAST has no problems with your forum and looks forward to maintaining open dialogue with the sister forums all over. But it becomes strained when you post in here about chartership dues and miss the overall intent of our club.
That being said, I can understand your hesitancy in supporting an organization that's primarily based in San Antonio, all that being said, I would ask that you don't trivialize the purpose if the charter membership. The points that you raise are rather insignificant to the overall purpose of our organization.
I truly hope that your forum continues to grow and flourish. We will do what we can to support your organization.

You'd think a place so close to the water would inspire people to gather materials and make a tank. People rather fish than maintain an aquarium. I know several people that have great tanks but lack the fish stores equipment sales in order to get what they want. Speaking for myself, id have to go to San Antonio to get a decent tank and equipment. They cant offer that here.

Ive been trying to get one together for down here but their is not a really good place to get a meet and greet/ frag swap together. The local fish stores won't email back, and I am thinking that people don't want to have it at their house until people start to get to know one another.
