Ok i am still new to this. I just set up my new light system in my tank switched from basic light system and i the course of the day i have noticed 3 different things.

1. one little white bug that kind of looked like a termite! dont know if this is good? about 1/8 of an inch big if not smaller.

2. several white and one brown looking stalk with a claw looking tenticals extending around the top of it. around 1/4 and inch tall?

3. i think it is a baby feather duster it has about 10 arms that kind of resemble feathers that are brown with some white on them. this is about 1/4 inch if not smaller.

thanks for any help u guys give i hope its nothing bad already.

2. could be feather dusters (good) but they could be aiptasia (bad)

Google them both and compare the images. That should help you diagnose!

They are very small I don't think number 2 are feather dusters they are clear and they don't suck the tentacles back in! Now number 3 i am sure are like 99%. I took a pi but don't know how to post them on here yet I'll look around.

i hate to be the guy that says it, but that looks alot like aptasia, not such a big deal if you are keeping strictly fish, but no good in a reef.

Maybe a type of majano? The stalk looks thick for an aiptasia. Neither are good... but personally I'd rather deal with majanos.

But... a little off center and down a bit... that might be an aiptasia...

Don't panic, it's manageable and just part of the process.

Erik, good guess on the spaghetti worm! That matches the description pretty well. I hate those things. They're gross. Harmless, but gross.

What will eat it or kill it?

If it's not a terrible infestation, just try the aiptasia X type products you can buy at LFS. Sometimes it can take a few tries to get one killed, and sometimes other babies sprout up, so just keep an eye out for them.
There's a nudibranch that eats aiptasia, some people here have tried them, but they may not be necessary in your case.

If it's majanos, the work is more tedious, but more likely to yield immediate results as well, without the little things creeping back up on you later. I used the technique described at Melev's Reef here:

Member SoLiD is down there in your neck of the woods. You should hook up with him and get some advice. Another pair of eyes on the tank woiuld be a benefit to ya.

if they are on rock that has no coral on it, and you can pull the rock easily, take a blowtorch to them. very effective, and it cooks all the planulae.

If it's aptasias then I would get some peppermint shrimp, I haven't seen one of those little buggers since I got some peppermints
