Picked up some Nori yesterday. I put some on a veggie clip in the tank. The Sailfin tang has not touched it, does not even look at the Nori. Been 12hrs in there and nothing. Should I try garlic, and how?
BTW, she is eating Mysis and Brine Shrimp. But I know Tangs need some vegetable in their diet.

go to the lfs and get the one for like 5 bucks that has garlic addedm, should last you a while. i know gabe has it, thats where i get mine but most lfs should have it. look in the lil clear box it comes in and make sure its in a zip lock type bag, they have a stronger garlic scent. you can even come by and ill give you some to try, since i dont have any fish to feed it to.

I have a desjardini sailfin tang and a Hippo tang and neither one of them ate on the vegi clip at first. I would leave it on there for 24 hrs and what ever was left I took it away and replaced with fresh. Then one day the sailfin took a sample and the rest is history. The baby hippo saw the sailfin and thats how he learned. In the wild they dont feed on free floating algae they grasze on rocks. You might try rubber banding a piece onto a small rock to simulate the grazing habbit. Then eventually try hanging it on the veggi clip.

you can try rubber banding it to a small rock and putting that in the tank rather than putting the nori in the clip. sometimes that will make a difference.

I got dried Nori, the kind used for sushi wraps. I'll try the rubberband and rock thing tonight.
Can't get to a LFS until Wednesday. Can I just soak the nori I have in Garlic?

You can but it might make it too soggy to manage. I
its not imparative that they eat alage right away so be sure not to worry too much. If they are eating the frozen foods then they wont starve. The algae feeding might take some training and a couple of weeks but they will get it eventually.
It is important to get them to eat algae eventually because over a long period of time they can develop health issues like head and lateral line erosion. Its good for all your fish to get some algae in their diet though.
Just keep on truckin and it will all work out. :) Again I recommend the LFS bought prepared alages in the rectangle clear packages because they have garlic incorporated in them and vitamins infused already.

My Chevron went two or three years before it would eat sheets of algae and I tried all of them. Just make sure he gets Spirulina soaked foods or spirulina brine shrimp and he/she should be fine.

Pretty sure you've tried this, but soak the algae in water (in the tank or a cup, w/garlic or not) for a few seconds then rub your fingers together with the algae in between to break it in real small pieces. I'd be shocked if they don't eat it. You can then ween them to the clip once they get a taste for it.

Also they sell frozen w/spirulina & marine cuisine w/algae which will help with health and weening them to Nori.

We took a sheet of nori, rubbed some minced garlic on it and left it in a ziplock bag over night. When you take it out, scrape off the garlic before putting the nori in the tank.
