The craziest thing ever just happened to me. My Blue Spotted Jawfish got himself stuck in my overflow, but he was doing just fine in there (plenty of water). The crazy thing happened when I slowly and gently grabbed him with my hand. He went WHITE and STIFF and his Spots faded. I think I scared him to death, and when I put him in the tank, he sunk straight to the bottom, motionless, like a lead weight. So I freaked out and picked him up and cupped him in my hand and positioned his head and mouth near the flow of my power head where he could receive some water passing gently through his gills. His mouth was held open as the water flowed through his mouth and gills but he still didn't look good and he was still all pale. after about 30 seconds he started responding a little. Then his color started slowly coming back and he started pumping his mouth. After what seemed like 3 minutes he was kind of back to about 60% but he was really stressed so I placed him in his little burrow and he stayed there for the next 20 minutes as I monitored him. Now, 30 minutes later, he looks as he did prior to everything happening.
The point of all this is that I suppose there is such a thing as Fish CPR and maybe if this happens to someone else, they won't give up and they will remember to try the power head CPR method, and bring their little buddy back to life. :bighug: :applause:

Mann that's just too cool. I wish I had tried something like this when my Minniatus decided to take a swan dive out the tank. :-(

I've done something similar with pond fish that hopped out and thumped against something hard. It knocks the wind (water?) out of them, so I "walk" them back and forth in the pond a bit... gets them going again, sometimes. Sometimes they end up like Mike after taking a few too many hits to the noggin. Still breathing and swimming, but just not the same.
Your Blue Spot is eating/swimming normally? Good job on the rescue. :)

Hahaha!
Maybe I should have referenced that Rocky character. Between my name, my job, and the safari getup I wear every day, I do have a certain affinity with his wife. :blushing:

Ah that clears it up... My Mike had quite a few tumbles down the stairs in his early years so his dain bramage is almost as legendary as Tyson. :)

I'll remember to use David's method and add a 9 volt battery with a couple wires to jump start the fishes heart. Cool story David!

Froggie, our Blue Spotted Jawfish still looks as good as new. I'm glad he was able to recover. Not only is he one of my favorite fish, but also a rather expensive one too. I will try to post a video of him later on. Thanks everyone

When people catch and release fish and hold the fish out of the water too long (taking pictures ect.) the fish sometimes seems dead when put back in the water, so many fishers run water through their gills, then they spring back to life and swim away, so i can see how the power head method worked!
but ive also seen invers (new) drop "dead" to the bottom and after a few seconds JUMP up and flip over fine and dandy. lol
