Hey guys, I am in need of someone to test my water for magnesium. The kit is way too expensive for me to buy immediately, but since I am having issues with accros hiding polyps, I need to get this test done. We can discuss payment for the test.
Thanks
Richard

Any LFS should be able to test it for free if that is more convenient.

Are you having problems with your alkalinity? I thought your other thread said your dkh is around 11, which is fine. Mag deficiency usually results in low alk and/or calcium levels. But, it's always good to know what's going on with your tank's chemistry, so let us know how things work out.

Poster on RC said that I should test it as perhaps it might indicate that I have an imbalance, explaining lack of polyp extension.

I didn't ask if Bird Dog Cat Fish did tests for Mag, but they didn't have one on the shelf. I did ask at AqD, and Jason said they don't test for Mag. The Salifert test kit there is $50, or thereabouts.

Seriously? I've never spent $50!
I have a partial Mag kit you can have, as well as some spare Mag to add if needed. If you bring a sample I can test your calc/alk/phosphate as well for you.

Lack of PE can cause by varieties not just low mag. My mag is always low 900-1100, but most of mine sps having PE in the day time and all PE at night. Have you check for nipper? or do you have PE at night when all the lights are out?

Got to be careful with advice on RC. There are some knowledgable people on there. But, lately it seems that for every good post I see on there, there's 3 bad ones.

I know AD is a sponsor, but their prices are my one gripe about them. You can order a Salifert Mg kit online for about $25.

Well, I tested the Magnesium...it is just a little over 1200. I added some Mag, and we will see how that turns out. I'm starting to think that that is not gonna be the answer. Just gonna prolly continue on as I have been, and just do the reefing thing. It's really just an annoyance that there is no PE, but the corals seem to be doing just fine. Sure wish they would eat, though.

Am looking for growth and color more than anything. Don't worry much about PE, my Cali tort has good growth and color with no PE during the day time.

FWIW, I ALWAYS had a PE "problem", but had no problem growing basketball sized SPS colonies...

Be careful what u read on there. For me personally I had the same issue and once I started feeding zoo my PE came back. Now I have great PE day and night.
