Anyone know how well, if at all, powder coating holds up in a saltwater environment? Won't be under water but could be subjected to salt spray and will be hanging over the tank. I am thinking of replacing my center brace with a stainless steel one and although stainless does not corrode very fast, it still does and I would like to seal it by powder coating it to make sure to keep that rust and stuff out of my tank.

we have had members powdercoat metal stands before, but i am not sure how well it would work above the tank. another option for you may be spray on rhinoliner or some other kind of heavy duty truck bedliner spray on.

I believe it holds up well. Aren't a lot of light fixtures powder coated? Pretty sure my Viper is, and there is no corrosion evident.

Go line X if you get it sprayed... Used to work for them way back and still support that product....

Asfar as powdercoating, lmk if u need someone. I know a guy in san marcos that does quality work.

I had all the insides as well as the bottom, top, and back of my wodden stand sprayed with Line-X and it does a great job against saltwater spray and spills.

I'm not familiar with the Line-X product. Is a smooth finish or kind of bumpy. I want somthing I can wipe down and keep clean. That is what made me think of powdercoat.

Line-X is a little rough and not as thick, about a eighth to a quarter inch thick. I got my truck sprayed with a Rhino lining which is more of a rubbery type material and is about a half an inch thick at the bottom of my truck bed. I'm sure thickness can vary, depending on the shop and what you ask for.

Line-X doesn't come off since it's probably closer to a powder coat like you're looking for. Rhino does come off since it's more of a rubber compound. I chose Rhino for my truck bed because things don't slide as easy on rubber and Line-X for my fish tank because it was thinner, lighter, and because I had a friend that worked at a shop that did Line-X. ;-)

They both have their pro's and cons and it all depends on what you're looking for. I hope this helps.

If you would like to see the differences you're welcome to come over and see for yourself.

^^Very true , who was your friend? It's been a long while that I worked there.. But I believe Mike still owns the one on nakoma.

Yes line x is a bit thinner but a more uniform/fine finish... Very nice looking when sprayed right. Rhino is thick, real thick compared to line x but they don't call it rhino for nothing... Too me it looks like a rhinos *** , lol... IMO of course

But if line x isnt applied properly it can sag as a rhino liner.

His name is Sean and he worked at that location as well as 210 Customs off of Bitters and custom sounds on San Pedro. He's a cool guy and did a great job on my stand.
