I have a white carpet anenome and turns blue/green under actintics. Very nice.
I drop a small piece of shrimp on him at feeding time and he eats it. yummy
Very happy guy.
When the metal halides come on he shrinks big time. 2 250 watt hqi de retro
Sometimes I have seen his guts come out. bumer
But then when metal halides are off and the old 4 54watt T5 come on he eventually
spreads back out and looks very very happy and waits patiently for his shrimp.
Also i had to put my zoa rock into the sump with pc lights.
When I turn my metal halide on they turn white but with pc in sump they flourish.
I posted to sale the metal halides but is this whats wrong? any idears?
My xenias, colt, yuma, and ric seem to like the metal halide.
But not the anenome, zoa, or stars.
Wuzup
ps I hope Im in the right forum for this

When you moved the coral into this tank did you acclimate them to the Halides ?
When I set up my tank about a month ago and I use 250s 14Ks did the acclimation in 1hr increments starting at 2hrs Max. And while watching my corals behavior bumped up another hour each day or two untill I reached 7 to 8 hrs
Also what height do you have the bulbs hanging from off the water level ? Position of coral ? age of bulbs ? Etc

Yes on the stars no to the zoas. I will move timing on halides down to 2 hours. I will let you know what happens.
I have a tall 125rr. The retro is in canopy screwed to ceiling of canopy. The coral has to be placed on LR because my dragon will drop sand on them.
Zoa will be placed less than 12 inches high and MH is 32 inches high. So 2ft between the two. Too close???
HOPEFULLY this will help the White Carpet Anenome.

I have tried 2 hours MH and now 3 hours MH. Anenome and zoas are doing ok. This seems to be working. I will start to push to 4 hours MH and will post update next week.

Hmmm I think im having the same problem with my newly purchased anemone and frogspawn coral. My anemone seems to shrink and become stringy with the MH on and then it becomes more inflated during actnic and night time. So to acclimate to light do i Just slowly increase the amount MH light everday... for instance 1hr 1st day 2hr 2nd day etc...? My normal MH lights are on 8hrs with actnic for 10hr. Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread.

UPDATE: Cutting off the MH will hurt your anenome. My white carpet is gone. I have purchased a long tentacle anenome. Hopefully they will be easier. gl

When I hear "white anemone" I think bleached anemone which is, unfortunately, very common. In which case they shriek from lighting, spill guts regularly, and often die quickly. Do you have any pictures of the RIP carpet?

Forgive the algae on the glass. lol
You see that little white crab on him.
White carpet is gone. bumer expensive Since then I tried something easier.
I bought a long tentacle anenome. This guy isnt doing so hot either.
My coral are happy. My fish are happy. Only use ro/di water with mh/t5.
total of 700 watts of light on 125rr. weekly water changes.
I moved my little white crab to sump/refugium to see if I can save long tentacle anenome. ugh any ideas let me know.
I tried to feed brine shrimp and skinned shrimp from HEB.
They are frozen and I have to rinse under cold water.
Then I cut up into pieces to feed to fire shrimp and anenome and other crabs.

It was bleached. I'm sorry it died. In the future, steer clear of unnaturally colored anemone like white (except condilactis) and neon green long tentacles.

Im curious. How can you tell it was bleached? They sale these white anemones on many different websites. This one turned metallic green under blue lighting. Really kool.
I was thinking it was a combination of the pesky white crab and sand that got dropped on him from the dragon and yellow golden head sleeper.
Or maybe the chemicals released from the coral I had in the tank. I bring plankton and minerals into the tank. Any ideas let me know?
The MH bulbs I have are 15k. t5s are a little old. I was thinking the lighting could be given off the wrong spectrum.

Zoanthellae is never white. Companies leave anemone in the dark to make them turn white. It probably started as unattractive color. Or collected poorly. When under stress or lack of light the anemone will lose its zoanthellae and turn white. Then they can no longer feed them self off photosynthesis. When that happens they shriek from light and spill their guts. Some research on the subject can provide more insight than can recall.

Thanks for the reply. I can work with that. But now my long tentacle is upside down. ugh There has to be something else. White host crab has been moved to sump.
Under my impression both anemones were healthy at first. Then they flip themselves and slowly die. Does anybody have magic juice?
Maybe I am feeding wrong. The carpet lasted a lot longer than this long tentacle. It should have been reversed. Again both were very happy and appeared healthy.
Both were purchased here in town at 2 different locations.

Justin just need a little help here. So bleaching is the principle of depleting the anemone light so the algae dies in it and the anemone turns white. yes/no
I drove to the vance jackson store to look at their current white carpet anemone. It looks healthy. They have cheap lights over it.
So this anemone is bleached too?? Their is a large lack of light with it. If I bought it and put in under MH it would probably spit its guts out too?
If your right this store is saleing dead anemones. And I have to find a store that sales anemones with MH. yes/no
Am I thinking right? There is another store thats does the same thing. Take a drive to vance jackson/410 and let me know what you think.
Their anemones look healthy with cheap lights. I need to find out why anemones are dieing under MH. Are they allready dead?
