Had a flame scallop?

Anyone kept a flame scallop for a while?

I've read they just don't have a naturally long life span in the wild, a couple years at best. Mine is good sized, so it's no baby. It's doing quite well, I was very picky when shopping for one. I've had it for about 4 months. I'm just curious what to expect for a life span in captivity. I'd like to hear some first hand experience, forum searches seem to have everyone quoting the same source...

Hm. I thought I had replied to this but it's not showing. Hopefully I didn't post it to an entirely unrelated thread. lol

I had 3. 2 small ones and one very big one. They go where they want to go and one of the small ones floated somewhere where I can't see it right on the first day so I've only been watching the big one and the remaining little one.

Both seemed to be doing really well (as far as I can tell). Then one day the big one just peeled off. Seemed fine the day before.
I had both of these for about 4 months and have really been paying attention to providing sufficient food for them.

Sorry to not have better info. I am guessing you are waiting for somebody with a 1 year old scallop to chime in. Maybe we can all check back next year :)

Waitng for news about a ten year old scallop might be more to her liking, but a one year old scallop might not be too bad.

Since it was the big one that faded out, it was probably old. If they live 2 years at best, it was already big, and you had it for 4 months, that's what I'd like to believe.

I've had mine about the same amount of time, and it's good sized. It's doing quite well now... I don't want to jinx it, but I'm worried its considered elderly. The shell sure looks well aged.

Thought I'd update, since the scallop seems to be acting different.

I've had my flame scallop for 8 or 9 months now. It was already large when I got it, and the shell was pretty gnarly and aged looking. He used to be a bit more open and dramatic looking. For the last month or so, it just doesn't seem to be as vibrant. No pests or parasites, no change in water quality or diet. It just seems to be fading. Finally reaching old age maybe?

Has anyone had a flame scallop for over a year, or anywhere close to the 2 year "age limit?"

Thought I would update.

The clam finally faded out last month. I had it for about a year. It was big when I got it, so I can only guess at the age. I miss it, a very cool creature. Knowing they have short natural life spans anyway, I'd be willing to try again.
