I have been lurking on here and I believe its about time I started posting.
I bought most of Robs(robalv) old stuff http://www.maast.org/showthread.php?63101-Selling-it-ALL....SOLD. and have had a bunch of help from Ruben(jrsatx20). Its been a learning experience, as I didnt know squat coming into this. I still dont know much but am learning as I go...
this is when it was setup and the sand was settling and with the old light set up.

Eitherway this is the lastest pic I do have... I changed the lighting to a aquaticlife HID setup from aquarium designs....
http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww125/gsrt5/fish%20tank/th_IMG_1390.jpg (http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww125/gsrt5/fish%20tank/IMG_1390.jpg)
At night with the built in leds

As a noob I tend to rush things, but thats a problem I have and have somewhat learned to kick back from my impulse buying. I think of all my hobbies that have came and went this is one that might just stick.
Sofar I have been to Gabes, Aquarium designs and texas tropical and have had good experiences with all three. I think I spend more time at the fish store than at best buy now...... Might do my normal stroll in a bit... see u soon.

Welcome and congrats on your new addiction. It is a pretty one to look at, but you'll feel the pain eventually..... Kidding. Great start and I am sure Erik will chime in here with his patented BE PATIENT post. He is so right with that. Take your time and don't rush anything and you'll come to love the hobby. That is a nice size tank to start off with.

thanks everyone. Yes I bought the skimmer but did not pick up the reef keeper.
Asfar as taking it slow, I am trying.. LOL
Tank size, I believe is just about right. I was planning on starting with a nano but was advised not to from plenty of ppl, glad I didnt as I would have wanted to upgrade.

Welcome good sir! Ruben sandwich, Gabe, and Robert are all good sources for knowledge. Sometimes it's ok to impulse buy a coral since you can easily remove it and sell it here, but definitely be selective on the fish. They're much harder to remove if you get one with a bad temper, one that nips corals, or one that's just going to get too big for the tank.
This club can really help you out. I think I've learned more in the past 3 years here on Maast than I did in the dozen or so years before that.

I love it.
The timer functions and everything in one plug is what sold me. Just trying to figure out what time I should everything to come on and go at. I am still using the pre programmed settings..

Thanks bro....
You're right... Up and downs exactly...
I've felt I deserve a nicer tank but never wanted to give up on this one... Its almost where i want it to be... After all these years.

Happy 4 years of reefing, JT! I totally relate to the not wanting to give up on this tank philosophy... Be sure to take some pics bc I have a theory that "almost where I want it to be" is actually as good as it gets.

Truly amazing tank !!!!

Wed, 26th Nov 2014, 01:22 PM
Thanks lucky, but like any other tank it has its flaws....
Been battling aptasia since the tank started(pretty much).... Had a nasty episode with cyano at about the 2 year mark, which i won....
I added rock recently and broke out with diatoms and a bit of cyano.... Which today i noticed hasnt returned in much of the tank since last water change(week ago)....
i tried another product on the aptasia and it made the stuff mulitply!!!....
I placed a order for 16 berghias and 3 spirals of eggs. I placed them in the tank last thursday, so now its a waiting game... I will blast them soon with the laser to help the nudis out a bit...... But ya, this is one expensive battle :-/

I do recommend reeftown for berghias.... They were awesome... They ship out every wednesday and for every 5 you buy, they give you a swirl of eggs....

Same thing happened to me. I started with two small heads that I nuked and before I knew it they were popping up everywhere across the tank.

Bergias are the way to go . It'll take time but will work . Key is to get enough Bergias .

Yup, hoping 16 with all the eggs is enough... Put the eggs in my fuge and over flows and all 16 in the display....
