I bought 5 more Yellow tangs about 2 inchers. And I just threw them in there. (After the acclamation and temp matching) they are all fighting a little. The 4 inch Purple tang and my 4.5 Inch yellow Tang are doing a number on them, and as always the Fuji fox face is trying to break up the fights. Threw in some food, everyone ate then went back to fighting. I had to turn the lights out on them. I am hoping for the best.

Hope it works out. From what I've been reading you are supposed to introduce them all at once (before a single one can establish territory) if you want to go with schools.
I'd definitely keep feeding them though. Being hungry makes me even grumpier...

Yeah man, I tossed like $400 in fish in all at once, not a good choice on my part. Mine were large fish though, not small, so there may be a good rate of survival. Either way my well wishes and good luck. :)

That worked for me for a couple of days. I had added one sailfin and two yellows. They were schooling. I added my big yellow tang, and they all continued to school. Now, the big yellow and sailfin are buddies, they don't really pay much attention to the two small yellows but the two small yellows are back and forth at each other. It's not too bad and it's actually entertaining. They're the same size so one will go after the other, then the other will come right back and chase him. Then they just go back to doing their own thing.

actually what I meant was: start with a tank completely void of tangs, then add all yellow tangs (or anthias or basses or whatever) at the same time. Then add no more of that kind after that.

You know, I had that happen once, but not necessarily with a large group of fish, but I had 2 yellows and decided a third one was needed :) The two that were in there got along, and they teamed up some on the new guy. In my situation, it appeared that they just wanted to show dominance and , and after a couple of days and a slightly torn fin, they let it go and the three schooled and got along well. Perhaps this will be the case for you.

I have heard that too Karin but I was a little limited in the selection of fish I wanted and would work. I hope not to have an ick break out, thanks JT another thing for me to worry about.

Might try rearranging some rockwork, might cause them all to find new territory.

I was thinking of that too. I want to get some rock work down to the sump.

Yea was gonna mention same thing SABOB said. Move Rock Structures and if that dosnt work take biggest aggressor out and place him in the sump for a week then re introduce to main tank.

Timeout has worked for my AGGRESSIVE Trigger. Grouper. Tang. Angel Tank

Although a 275 gallon tank is no small tank, it is still way too small for a school of yellow tangs. The first thing to mention is that I have personally always heard that yellows won't school long term in a group less than 7. Weird number I know.

The only success I've ever had keeping a school of yellows is in a 1100 gallon tank here in Austin that measures 10'x4'x4'. I introduced all of them into the tank at the same time and there is definitely a dominant fish after 2 years of living together but they overall are all doing very well. Just my personal experience again but I wouldn't try to keep a school of yellows in anything that is shorter than 10 feet and another 10'x2'x2' tank we set up would still be too small for them.

I guess I didn't give you an alternative for a schooling fish either. Look into the cardinal family or the anthias family. I know many people don't like to feed anthias as often as they need to but weening the fish onto pellets then using an Eheim autofeeder is very effective. The cardinals are a great choice as well with my personal favorite being the Blue-Eyed Cardinal.

Well, I.m knee deep in it now. They are doing much better today. Although I thought it was funny they were evenly spaced every 2ft the whole length of the tank. Its an 8 ft tank we will have to hope for the best. Noone is fighting or chasing today.

Fish are doing well. One of the tangs seems to be taking a bit of a beating. we will see, I also added a set of small clowns and a goby. I added one small other small fish. Pseudo bicolor I think.
