As some of you know I have a 110 tall tank. Well since I have had it up I have never been impressed with the circulation in my tank. Currently I am running 2-K4's and a Tunze 6100. I am thinking about taking the plunge and going to Vortech and the MP 40. With it being a tall tank can I get away with one MP40 and some supplemental flow. Or will I need to get a another 40 or could I get with the 20.

How long is it? If it's 3' long, I'd say one would be enough. If it's longer, I'm not sure if it would be enough.

Its a 4ft long tank. Also it's 31" tall.

Honestly, I think one would be pushing it but someone else may be able to chime in.

One mp40 with some secondary pumps worked just fine on a 90. I started with one plus a maxi-mod and was happy. Finally added a 2nd mp40 when the finances allowed it. Currently I'm using 2 40's on a 120 gallon, in reef crest mode and both run at about 75%.

What about just taking the slightly higher plunge to go MP60?

For a 110G??? A single 40 set on pulse would create a nice flow and undertow. 'Sides, 2 mp 40w's would run about about $120 more than a single 60.

Jarrod, I think you might find that the single MP40 is just what you are looking for. It really helps to get things moving in the tank, much more so than the Koralias.

You're missing the equipgasm that would come with having a 60 ;) personally I think a single 40 would probably cover the needs based on rockwork and positioning :)

I think Kristy meant koralia maybe?

Duh, I meant Koralias but wrote Vortechs. New rule: no posting on MAAST til I finish my first cup of coffee!

I didn't realize how big the 60's were until I looked at the listed dimensions. 4" diameter and the min flow rate is 3500gph?! Wow, they are a beast.

What are you using as your return? How much head loss are you experiencing? Does your display have drilled returns? The reason I ask is you may be able to meet your circulation needs by cleaning, replumbing, or upgrading your return pump. An efficient return pump would increase flow, use less electricity, and reduce eye sores in your display. Well placed returns can create a surge effect you are looking for. Do you want allot of flow in one direction, or allot of flow all over? Just a thought.

i agree one mp 40es and the koralias would be fine, later you can get another mp and be really happy

Chris, that's been my thinking. Go with one mp40es for now and keep the Koralias for help. Then later on add another mp40.

Yeah, I just looked at it again and couldn't believe I wrote that twice! You're right, I was just sitting down to drink it when I wrote that second post. Neurons were definitely not firing this morning (and I had been at work for two hours at that point... scary!) :)

As I drink my cup of coffee I am laughing. Thanks Kristy!

And now I am checking my spelling. Better keep it short! I ditto what others are saying, except corrected my statement that Kristy made :)

Why do you think that is not enough flow with what you have? I think you having alot of flow already ,unless you're planing to have alot of SPS. You might want to reposition them first and see. Just my 2 cents.
