What now?

For this demonstration we fragged our Mr. Cob's Palau Neon Green Nepthea (which can no longer be collected in the wild as it is supposed to be extinct).

4) A container for dipping [check]

Let's get started....

A) Cut your colony with the sharp scissors. The cut should only be made if you can cut the entire branch in one clean cut. We like to use sharp medical scissors so that the colony can be left in the tank during the cut (be sure to shut off all pumps if making cuts in the tank). Once all cuts have been made the mother colony can be pulled out for dipping to help aid in the healing process. Bad cuts are considered when it takes multiple attempts to cut one branch.

cuts made to our mother colony:

B) Add fresh cuts to container of tank water and then add MediCoral dip to aid in healing.

C) Dip fresh cuts in tank water to wash off dip and then add to rubble box

D) Wait a couple days...

E) or maybe even a week or two for the fresh cut frags to attach naturally using our rubble box.

So...out with the rubber-bands and fish net....

Palau Neon Green Nepthea frags going up on the site in the next couple of days. I keep missing chances to take shots when they are open with full polyp extension.

Thanks, Kristy.

I have tried many methods of fragging my Palau Nepthea over the years and I finally gave up on fragging it because I had about a 20-30% success rate. Last year for the frag swap I made about 10 frags and only about 3 of them made it. The rubber-bands would slice through them and then they would get sent all around the tank, or some how they would escape from the fish net method, and obviously gluing them didn't work.

Anyways, with the softie rubble box I made 5 frags and all 5 survived! 100% success rate now! :)

hey rob what r the dimensions of ur 9 and 16 hole rack..

9 hole = 3" x 3"

16 hole = 4" x 4"

20 hole = 5" x 4"

The standard non magnetic racks stand about 3" - 3 1/4" in height.

Apparently the rubble box also works great as a Mandarin feeder:
