A while back I bought this cool looking live rock with a coral skeleton on it. I thought it would be a pretty backdrop for some zoas, but I put it in my tank, then forgot about it for a while. And now, it's not a dead skeleton, it's a live coral........but what is it?

It's very pretty, and growing quite nicely. The rock is about three inches by five inches, if that helps. The centers are bright green, surrounded by a dark purple with white stripes running through it radiating outward.

Anybody know what it is?

Lucky you!

These corals are amazing creatures, aren't they? I moved a "dead" acan skeleton in a new spot in the back of the tank, not hoping anything for it, but wanting to hang on to the rock for frag rubble, etc. Now there are a bunch of fleshy orange acans on it... not so dead after all, just completely bleached white and down to almost zero flesh.

Kristy, I think it's the coolest thing! They are very pretty as well.

I also bought an unknown skeleton a while back, just for looks. Turns out it's a candy cane, and apparently decided to come back to life in my tank :) I love surprises in my tank (but only the good kind).
