Have we done a symbiotic contest yet? I know a lot of people have pistol/goby, sexy/ricoridia, and clown/anemone pairs

I like the "Big Mouth" idea and also the "Where's Waldo"!
This may seem like the dumbest idea ever, but it crossed my mind that we might get a lot of variety if our topic was a color, just "Red" or "Blue," etc. People would submit all sorts of different things, a detail on a fish, or a particular coral. Just thought it might get some creativity.
Also, what do you think of Action, some sort of shot that denotes action for a fish, or an anemone swaying, or a coral reaching and grasping, or even the wave of powerhead. I don't know, maybe better limited Aquarium Animals in Action.
I think we did Refugiums not too long ago. Might want to wait a bit before we do it again.
It's ALWAYS my intention to submit a picture and I never do. Gotta get me some photo skills.

I love these ideas Kristy ! Color only and Action ! Makes others guess on what the picture might be.

I think I joined MAAST in October of 2009. Couldn't find anything older than July 2009. Is this when the contest started? Or should I dig deeper?

I think that's about right. And if it's not then time has passed so that we don't really remember them...

how about we expand it to echinoderms feeding since we already had starfish?
Kristy
Thu, 2nd Dec 2010, 01:09 PM
Echinoderms feeding...! That amuses me. Sure you wouldn't prefer a broader category, such as Fish / invert feeding?
Plus we already know stangchris has that wicked shot of his starfish eating an asterina star.... who is gonna be able to compete with that? Of course, a shot of my basket star feeding would be pretty cool. Hmmm..... I hate it that my photo skills are so bad. Maybe I can ask for photography lessons for Christmas.

Just do it!
Take pics. Post them. Don't worry. Enjoy
I think there could be some awesome urchin shots in the echinoderms feeding category! Fish feeding should definitely be a separate category ;)

added it. some of the suggestions were very similar to what we already had on the list so I just expanded those closely related ones.
If I misunderstood any of tehm and they really should be separate please let me know :)

Nano-reef had "pests" as a POTM contest which I thought was a pretty cool idea.

Sure, that's a good one. I got that. ;) (I love my rock shelf. It's the best. IMO. :D -Thanks Gabe)
The pest idea is awesome too - it glorifies the beauty of the things we hate, a lovely dichotomy. Some pests can be beautiful, but we're bent on eradicating them. I love my 'dirty' tank and all the weird microfauna challenges it brings. All part of the fun. Some of my favorite things in my tank came as weird unknown hitch hikers.

The winner on nano-reef was a majano anemone. It was colored nice and looked really cool!
The only pest that I HATE with a passion is aiptasia. All other pests haven't been that bad really. Aiptasia is terrible though. :(

How about an ugly tank contest like nuisance algae or pest infested. Or a worst picture of the month to glorify those of us lacking in photo skills : p

Also a tank being dominated by one coral (like when people buy a frag of GSP then it's covering half of their tank! Or xenia) ?
