Ok, there is still a chance that the water we have found that is seeping from the bottom trim on our tank is actually a leak from the plumbing (from the back overflow PVC tubing) but neither Mike nor myself is thin enough to squeeze back in that corner and check it adequately to tell.

SO.... if you are reasonably slim (just about anyone of average size could fit back there but we cannot!) and could be available to stop by our house this afternoon for a consult, please let us know. It would be wonderful to find out that it's just a plumbing leak. And if it's not.... well then we've got to get our bigger plans in order.

Thanks.

Let's see if somebody closer to you can swing by but if not I am willing to drive up there and squeeze behind your tank. I'll have some work to do right now but I'll check back in in a bit to see if you found somebody or if I should come up.

can you check maybe by turning off the return pump and see if the overflow continues to leak?

Thanks SO MUCH for the quick offers guys! I think we've got somebody lined up now to put eyes on the situation (James aka Scream 311 offered to swing by since he is going to be on our side of town this afternoon). I will update the thread when we have more info.

Also, appreciate the suggestion on turning off the return pump Karin. That's a good idea for comparison.

Good luck Kristy and Mike. I can stop by after 8pm if scream311 doesn't get there.

Keep us updated.

Glad you discovered it as early as you did. Hope the fix isn't too difficult! I was going to say something about duct tape, but you probably should fix it right instead.

That is good news considering the alternative. Do you and Mike need any help with fixing the plumbing? If so I can be available after work any night this week.

Hey Kristy and Mike ! I'm glad I was able to swing by and identify the problem y'all were having with that BEAUTIFUL REEF ! My wife and I really enjoyed the Tank Tour. I love Mikes 75 FOWLR and my Wife is now bugging me for our own little "Bertha" aka Maroon Clown lol had an amazing time talking Fish with y'all despite the leak y'all were having. I hope that Kevin shows up with the Epoxy soon (pvc Cement)

You know JT that purple plumbing glue PVC Cement lol same thing hahaha

Hopefully adding. Some cement to the Nut on the Overflow Bulkhead or to the base of it would seal the Leak. Good Luck

I'd try to tighten the nut first. A flat tip screwdriver and something solid like a hammer. Remember not to over torque it.

i wouldnt put any glue/cement on the bulkhead

most common mistake pinchs the o ring

make sure the bulk head is in the center i think was oceanic that had slightly bigger holes than normal ( i could be wrong on the brand)

just buy a new bulkhead if its older ...

The O-ring should goes on the flange side.

We tightened up the nut (well Kevin did actually) and the moisture is ALMOST nonexistent now. That will hold it til we can get in there with the bubble gum and the duct tape, oops - I mean replace the bulkhead and fix it right.

Erik, you were going to be my next call if we hadn't gotten quick volunteers. You are just the right size for the job and practically a neighbor.

Thanks again everybody for the well wishes and offers to help. Huge thanks to both James and Kevin. Great talking with you and Lisa, James. Hope we didn't keep you guys too long.

We ended up not using the PVC glue and our plan is to replace the bulkheads.

No you didn't keep us too long. I would have stayed and helped longer but I'm glad Lisa Reminded Me about the Bucket Full of Fish in the Car that we just picked up from BBQHillBilly if not we might have had a bucket full of Anchovies lol oops hope these guys didn't hear me say that lol I'm glad tightening the nut helped I figured that might have solved it at least for now. Wish I was in my truck that's where the Bulk Head Wrench and Cement was at... dang it

Yep glad it wasn't a tank leak! Although a see through tank that you were talking about would be so cool. lol. Love Mikes little triggers.

Also Ace if you read this can you confirm that those bulkheads are 2"? I think you were the one that drilled it.

i think i remember them being 2in.

Kristy

Ray Allen would probably be our most reliable confirmation on the bulkheads. He is the one who had it drilled and had Ace put in the calfo. In fact, he may even have put it in a thread... I'll check the his old threads.

Thanks Ray. As much as your help would have been welcomed (and your build would also have been perfect for this job too!) your documentation was just what we needed. I can't tell you how many times in the past 2.5 years I have referred back to that FS thread for details about our tank or equipment!
