As anyone in my family can tell you I HATE scratches on a tank it just kills me and nobody may notice them but I do and I always notice them and thus I don't let anyone touch my tank. If somebody wants to help they can use the acrylic scrubber to get the small tough spots but nobody is allowed to run the magnet.

I cleaned my tank a couple weeks ago and had to leave so I left the magnet connected on the very top corner of the tank which is almost 6' high, fast forward two weeks and the pane is full of algae again and my father in Law walks by the tank and sees the magnet and decides to clean the tank while I'm at work and low and behold the magnet separates and falls down to the bottom of the tank so he reconnects them at the bottom of the tank along with 10 or so pieces of crushed coral and proceeds to scratch the crud out of 10" of the bottom right hand corner of the tank before he realized what was going on.

Let's just say I worked very hard on controlling myself when I saw what had happened and the tank is acrylic so it should buff out with a considerable amount of work since the scratched area is over 30 inches below the surface. Mizeny spoke to Ace which suggested some wet sanding paper to buff it out without having to drain the water which is somewhat of a relief.

This has happened to me in the past and that is why I don't leave the magnet connected but the one time I do Murphy strikes. It just seems like magnets attract people.

Ouch sorry to hear that Jose. I hate when people try and be helpful. Its always the kids at my house that "play" with the magnets. I've got the scratches to prove it myself. Geex. I hope wet sanding your beautiful tank corrects the problem good luck

Ugh... I feel your pain. I conscientiously clean the glass with the mag-float and work very hard at preventing scratches. Under normal circumstances, I am the only one who ever touches the magnet.

But my job sends me traveling quite a bit, sometimes for six or eight weeks at a time. And during those times, when I'm away and Mike comes to visit me, my mother has been good enough to keep an eye on everything from the fish tanks, the dogs, the cats and our two teenaged girls. So I bite my tongue (HARD!) and say nothing when I come back from my travels to a couple of new scratches on the glass as a very special "souvenir" from my trip. There are quite a few now from the past three years. I just try to be grateful (to have the support from my mom and to get to do some traveling) and then I dream of my next tank, which will have no scratches, no hidden killer crabs, no LPS-nipping flame-tailed blennies and free from cyano (hey, as long as I'm dreaming!). Someday...

Hope you figure out a way to get the scratches out without having to drain the tank, Jose. :)

Been their done that, but with me it has always been children.

What I do not understand are parents who have not taught their children its disrepectful to touch others things especially adults property in their own home. I get really upset when its people I do not know well.

Everyone knows not to touch Ray's aquarium. My wife doesnt even feed my fish. I prefer it this way for 1 simple reason, if something goes wrong I can blame know one but myself.

My tank has some nice scratches but I can not complain because I purchased it knowing they were already there.

We military move every 4 years....after them destroying my acrylic I have just decided that my tanks are disposable and I can enjoy them with scratches for now.

Thus...I have glass now lol

Quote him the manual, Section 4:

"any person person or persons responsible for 3 or more scratches on a front or side pane of an aquarium is wholly responsible for the replacement of said aquarium, along with the associated cost of any 2 frags or 1 fish the owner determines appropriate... "

Okay, I made that up but I'm sure many of us will swear it's true if you tell him.

My wife isn't even aloud in the same room as my tank. On a positive note, she has no interest in my tank. Anyways...

I don't even own a magnetic glass cleaner. I have a an old credit card that is used to clean the glass. Seems to work out better that way.
