I got a beautiful Caribbean Rock Flower Anemone!

It was attached to the bag and I wasn't sure how to safely get it off so I just cut that part of bag off and placed it into the tank attached to that piece of bag.

It kept floating under the rock but eventually I felt I had pinned down the plastic enough.
This morning though it was gone from its spot and is now huddled under a cave.

:( I paid extra for this one because it was so beautifully striped and now I can barely see it.

Do anemones like light? Is it going to come back out once it feels at home.

I'd really love to have it in a spot where I can see (and perhaps even feed) it!

if its like the ones i have from the gulf, they really dont care much for light mine open and close thru out the day. but they like over hangs out of the direct light, i noticed when i place mine they usually dont move once mounted.

I brought a couple of these home from Port A awhile back and discovered a neat trick for safely removing them if you can take the rock the anemone's attached to out of the tank. Simply rap on the rock with a hammer, and the vibrations make the anemone let go of its own accord. I discovered this by accident when I tried to break a small granite rock with an attached anemone into smaller pieces for easier placement in the tank. This technique frees you from the stress of stangchris' peel-it-off method, which DOES work. It just scares the crap out of me every time I try it for fear of tearing the anemone's foot.

Another +1 to Chris in saying that these guys don't like bright light, preferring caves and crevices. They also pack a MUCH more powerful sting than an LTA or BTA. However, I've had two in my tank for a year and a half now with a pair of mandarins without any troubles.

all of my rock work is nylon rod-ed together and sunk into 6 " of substrate. It would be totally not worth taking all of this out for a little anemone!
I am susprised to hear they would sting so much. My Dive Guide described them as about as non toxic and docile as it can get.

Maybe there are different kinds of rock anemones?
Mine is a Caribbean Epicystis crucifer

Sorry, I mentioned "sting" as relative to other anemones. To you (unless you have a sensitivity/allergic response), it will simply feel a good bit stickier than when you touch an LTA or BTA. I'm honestly not sure if we're discussing the same species since "rock anemone" is about as useful a common name as "pod." ;)

Mine has been in a cave for a couple months now. I had thought it would have moved but instead it has bleached out but still grows from the fish food it catches. They are fairly sticky. I would compare mine to a little less sticky than a carpet but definitely much more sticky than a bta or a lta. I go by this because I have never been stung holding any type of anemone. Knocks on wood. Tough skin I guess?

That being said a healthy fish ought to be able to pull away from them.

Sorry I actually have no experience petting anemones so no help there. ;)
It just felt fleshy not sticky at all but I didn't want to grab it too hard for fear of hurting it.

Hopefully it won't hurt anything. Guess it's kind of good it's out of the way now then!

Oh yours is very nice! It's got really long tentacles though. Seems much longer than the average Epicystis crucifer.

I got one that color and a red/blue/purple one from the port A trip. Both are doing amazingly well in my 14gallon. The red one seems to be traveling around the tank as of late...strange sat still till like last week since the day I put it in.

Dang chris, I kept looking at that picture thinking "man that's a strange looking gorg." then I realized it was an arrow

If you want to move it you can use your finger to "tickle" the foot of the anemone and it usually releases and if that doesn't work then use a syringe or something that you would use to target feed and just feel the syringe with water and squirt the water and the anemones base and it should release. Good luck

You can also use an icecube to move it. Place it at its foot and gently rub it sort of like a wedge. It will let go on its own.
