How soon can we get the breakdown on the event as far as to how much money was made?

I know my parents contributed a lot to the amount of money made. LOL! Did maast get a percentage from the vendors?

Lol, I've got to meet your parents!

Sorry guys. In the event you may have misunderstood, L*MAR wasn't meant to be a money maker so much as a method in which knowledge was gained.

Unfortunately the Army called and as such I was unable to attend but from what I've read here it would appear that a substantial amount of learning too place. No way to quantify that except to say "a lot was made". :-)

Thanks for asking.

you are exactly right allan. maast spent money to put on this event, to bring in great speakers and vendors. after all, that is what may people have been asking for - for maast to give back to the members

unfortunately, many members didnt take advantage of that...

If this was put on for the members, the members still deserve to know how much of their money was spent to put this on. MAAST is of/for the members, right? I however don't believe that this was not meant to be a money maker...I did however anticipate this response...

there will be a nice discussion thread about what time and money maast put into this event and how we could make it better and more attractive to members in the charter member discussion area in the near future. after all, those are the members who actually support the club with their time and money :)

If you look at the dates, I have supported MAAST longer than you and to follow 501 (c) designation, ANY MEMBER can ask these questions, not just charters. Anyone can come in off the street and ask to see how the finances are handled. The problems I have is that we are supposedly getting all these new members but the bank account continues to dwindle...I will pay my dues, just to help you create that thread...

not going to argue with you steve.

the information will be posted in the charter forum in a discussion thread about the event when it is all finished (as you know it can take a while to finalize reimbursements and payments from a big event). it will also be included in the board meeting minutes for november since it will be part of the financial report for that meeting. that will, as always, be posted for any member to see.

we decided to go ahead and post the financial recap and discussion for improvements in the general reefkeeping forum so everyone could participate.

The Bylaws provide for MAAST books to be available at any MAAST Meeting. Sherri always has them.

In all honesty I think he does have every right to be passionate about MAAST, as does anyone else, openness should be preached from the president down, which I'm sure Ace agrees! Also, while assumptions around peoples motives may always lean towards the negative, they really should not! Every charter member is invested in this club, as are many web members, and many passionately so. This is a family that's grown over time, sometimes dysfunctionally, but naturally so never the less, and as such there'll always be passion, and people rubbing each other the wrong way.

I agree, we all "have every right to be passionate about MAAST", but that does not translate into put a negative light on any little blemish this club goes through over time. When someone makes the comments:

If you look at the dates, I have supported MAAST longer than you...

There is nothing to "assume" here, and I don't believe this is a "lean towards the negative".

This BOD is VERY open and it does reflect from the President down. Also, we do have charter members and web members who are extremely invested in MAAST and even though "this is a family that's grown over time, sometimes dysfunctionally, but naturally so never the less", we can point out when someone is trying to create discourse and derail all the good some spend their time trying to improve this club.

so was your question answered steve ? The BOD has nothing to hide and has never done so. If you think you can do a better job at organizing the events for MAAST why dont you volunteer your time and help improve MAAST, if you are still are passionate for this hobby and club?

there really is no need for all of this bickering. we put on the event as well as we could and it didnt work out as well as we hoped. let's learn from it an move on to make next year's event better.

furthermore, there is NO need to personally call anyone out. keep the discussion on the issue presented in the original post please.
