Since none of you want to read my questions on 85g thread... (shame shame) I'll post this question again in it's own thread...

This tank is shallow at 17" and I do believe these kits are made for at least 21" tanks....so my question is do you think my intakes are low enough?

I cut them down as much as I could....but I'm thinking they need to be shorter (intakes...return lines fit perfect)...any thoughts? See below....

I'm thinking the air holes at the top need to be just above the surface of the water because the intake holes below that are at the surface when I think they should be below....!? Any experience here...?

Your talking about the durso standpipe's right? They are too high. The water level will be half way up the 90/t. Plus I like to keep the water level in my overflow about 1" lower then the tank, so the top to the standpipe should be almost even with the top of your return lines.

^perfect. Thanks. Durso standpipes....yes....

I thought they were too high.....I was just being hopefull though. I'm out of 1" pvc cutting room so I guess I need to cut the center area where the PVC is custom and too large for my PVC cutters.

I have the same kit (but my tank is a 29 so I left them exactly like manufactured.
When I look through the holes from the overflow box straight from the side I see the little air nipple thingy. That's how low mine are.
(wouldn't want them to stick out above the tank anyway because I have my screen cover on top)
But I didn't do this for any design reasons. It was supposed to be for a tank up to 29" deep and this is jsut how the max turns out to sit...

Rob, I have the same kit on the half circle and they seem to be about 2" high.

Rob,

Did you get this kit?

The drain should adjust up or down with out having to cut. we have these on our 240 and they just slide up and down. I also drop the durso about 1" below just to make sure I don't hear the water going into the overflow. The hole on top do stick out a little.

Yeah...they do adjust up or down but when your tank is only 17" tall you exhaust that room to play very quickly. I have them all the way down and I cut as much as possible off the 1" pvc at the bottom that the bulkhead fits into....only thing left to cut is the center "fat" area....which is also too big for my pvc cutter tool...guess I need to slice her up on Jack's table saw.

They will only go down to 20" as you have now found out. But if you know the measurement you want why not just build your own? I know adjusting is nice to help reduce noise but like also said above most of us keep the water line just below the top of the overflow box.

I already have the kits and have modified them...I'm past the point of no "return$"....and have cut parts to fit. Only thing left to do is to cut a few inches from the middle.

I like the kit so not interested in making my own or buying other parts...I just need to make another mod to it so I can get it down to 17"
