I went to bed last night with a single green BTA for my clown. When I woke up, there are three, and all sizable enough to host a clown. Is it normal for BTA to reproduce like that???

Anything to stress it out? I have heard they sometimes split due to stress or even changes in the tank (flow, placement, temp)... I have heard of them splitting into two, but not three. Pretty cool as long as they are big enough that the clown won't love them to death. We had two large 10 inch bubble tips for almost 2 years, which have both decided to split in the last couple of weeks. So we now have 5 of them in there with our two big maroon clowns. Hopefully they will spread out the lovin and all 5 will be okay. Depending on where they move, we might have to rehome a couple.

My clown decided yesterday he would return home to the BTA after months of hosting in my flower pot. Would that have caused it?

maybe... possibly it stressed out the BTA.

While they typically split in 2, 3 is not at all uncommon. The last split I had was to 3.

Ours split a few times as well. :) If yours is considered a "clone" then of course you will get minature duplicates of the original you have every now and then. :)
