Do you think it would be possible to grow cheato in the bottom half of my wet/dry compartment? As you can see from the picture there is nothing below the drip plate. I have very little room in my stand for any extra tanks. Would the cheato grow if I placed the same type of bulb up against the acrylic? It is less than 1/4 " thick.

Couldn't hurt to try. Maybe try two bulbs.

I agree....same concept that people use on BioCubes...they pull the back coating off the back glass and turn one of the chambers into a fuge by placing macro in it and lighting through the glass in order to not have to take the "canopy/lid" off.

Ya its funny Oceanic finally caught onto this and in the new model ones they have a clear glass pannel just in that section and have a t-5 light out that fits on it just right. I think your plan should work provided you get enough of the right light in there

Just make sure your light don't get too HOT

I was thinking the same thing. That type of light bulb posted in your picture so close to plexi will be a problem with possibly melting. I would opt for a compact flourescent bulb.

Don't they make a submersible LED that would work as a fuge light?

It's actually the bulb recommended by melevsreef.com It's a powercompact on the inside so it just gets warm.

You should be good to go then. I think it will grow just fine.
