Got a Eheim 1260 on a 60 gallon. Noticed that there was very little water coming up from the sump. Pulled the pump, rinsed off the outside grill, backflushed some water through the pump discharge. Reinstalled, but still no flow. Ran a bendable brush through the supply line and checked the shut off valve for any obstructions. Now I'm about 45 mins into working on this problem and still no resolution.

Pulled the cover off the pump to discover there was a sponge filter that I never knew was on there. It was completely plugged with goop and other crud. I've had this pump for almost two years and never knew it had a sponge filter inside the cover.

The problem could have been resolved in 5 mins if I'd read the pump manual. What is your d'oh moment in this hobby?

Constantly forgetting that I am filling a bucket of RODI in my laundry room only to find a nice big puddle on the floor once I do finally remember! Now whenever I am making water I leave the laundry room door open, leave the light on, and set a super loud timer! d'oh!

I have had 2 d'oh moments with my little hundred gallon stock pond. Last summer the pond was evaporating fast so I would turn the hose on to fill it and walk away to do other things. Hours later I would remember and its was to late. The pond had 100% brand new tap water and I killed my koi and goldfish. Did that twice, since then i stand there untill im done filling.

More recently with my ICECAP 660 Ballast. I could not figure out what was going on with it. It was wired correctly and would not come on and stay on. I replaced the fuse and still nothing. I mailed to the ICECAP headquarters for repair ,and get a call that the fuse was not seated correctly and that was the problem. So I waisted money on shipping to fix something that was not even broken. d'oh

Instructions we don't need them, throw them in the trash only to dig them out later. It is like listening to our wifes? (I am not going to dwell on the second comment!

Actually, my wife's usually the one who throws the directions and then comes hollerin' at me when the darn thing doesn't work. Needless to say, I didn't tell her about this episode.

Put a water sensor on the floor. It will sound an alarm when what hits the contacts. Or maybe tape the contacts to the inside of the bucket.
