I've noticed on several occasions where numerous tentacles extend from the substrate. Is this octupus looking alien a friend in my tank or an enemy at the gate
I researched this web site http://www.wetwebmedia.com/mardisindex.htm and didnt find any pictures within the category of Worm Marine Parasites of All Kinds.

Those are some real long tentacles for a tube anemone. I have no idea what else it could be though. That looks crazy.

Agreed that it is a spaghetti worm or possibly a hair worm and good for the tank. Reminds me a lot of when I first found this guy:

We have since seen them from time to time and they kind of resemble a bigger grown-up version of what you've got.

Got tons of them in my live rock and substrate. Some are near my corals and they've never been a problem.
