Inject boiling water

I want to try injecting boiling water as a pest control method. Seems a tad safer than some alternatives and worth a try.


When I searched the MAAST archives, I found this statement:

But at Melev's Reef, I found this statement:

So what's the deal? Is one method better, salt or RO? Has anyone tried this recently?

I've injected boiling lime juice into aiptasia before.... no ill effects to anything but the aiptasia.

I use to use pickling lime mixed with a little bit of water to treat for aiptasia. Also DI water as well as normal tap water will explode if heated in a microwave for too long. We microwave DI water all the time at work, but just have to shake it a little bit to introduce bubbles to help it boil.

Will heated lemon juice be just as effective as lime? I might consider that.

I wanted to use boiling water so I wouldn't introduce any lemon/lime/vinegar/kalk to the display tank. Removing the rock from the tank while its treated is helpful, but the stuff is still in there somewhat, right? I figured hot water would cool enough before I reintroduce the rock to cause any problems.

You don't even have to heat the lemon/lime juice. I've use regular lime juice and a diabetic syringe before and it works great. You just have to be quick as the recede quickly when you stab them.

Ha ha... for once using tap water wins over using RO
