I picked up an 8 legger from Ed. His name is SUCKA! He's in a small tank until I can get a good enough picture to id what type of octo it is. Currently I am feeding it sally lightfoot crabs. It is AWESOME to watch him crack open the shells and eat their brains. Then he tries to drag them into his rock, but they are too big to fit through the holes from which he comes out of. He is definitely nocturnal, and swims around the tank at night. With subdued lighting I can watch him from far. His feedings are expensive, but so far, very much worth it!

Erik,

Those guys WILL climb out of any tank - tight lid or not. You need to put a ROCK on the lid. ANY small hole or crack and it will slide out. When I worked at a LFS many moons ago, we found one dead, stuck to the wall.

LOL, that would be hilarious.

Erik is it the standard brownish octopus? Do you know what species?

ErikH

Have no idea of the specie yet. Should have taken pics of it before I put it in it's mini-tank. There's a large rock in it with a large cave on the inside of the rock. He hides in there. I'll see if I can find pics.

Followup for pics!!!

Did you ever get pics, or get to show it off at the tank tour? I'd love to have an octo someday, but they're ninjas and escape artists, lol. What kind of setup, tank size you holding that sweet guy in? I've read all kinds of stuff on how you have to cover holes with mesh and such. Seems like a heck of an effort, but worth the reward if successful.... UPDATES man...UPDATES!

He died the shortly after the tank tour. I had him in a tank which I moved since he was all stressed out. I don't know why but he just chose to starve himself. I put crabs in there daily, and water changed daily. :(
