Is there any discounted accommodations for out-of-towners or vendors/guest speakers? Any transportation from the airport? Is the public invited to the dinner with the speakers? what are you doing for providing seasoned heated saltwater and ro/di water for the vendors? Is this the current list of vendors attending?

Steve,
Let me try to address...
Is there any discounted accommodations for out-of-towners or vendors/guest speakers?
This is committee business and really not relevant to the intent of this thread with the exception of out of town attendees. No discounted lodging is available, although that probably a good thing to look into.
Any transportation from the airport?
The San Antonio cab service is available for attendees and the speakers/vendors are committee business not pertinent to this thread.
Is the public invited to the dinner with the speakers?
No, simply not enough room for seating of a potential 100 diners.
what are you doing for providing seasoned heated saltwater and ro/di water for the vendors?
Committee business.
Is this the current list of vendors attending?
Yes
Steve, I hope that I have adequately answered your questions and look forward to seeing you at L*MAR.

btw, these questions were all addressed at the last board meeting which was open to charter members. lets keep this thread clutter free, any further questions of this nature can be asked in a more appropriate forum.
back on track - we will be finalizing the raffle list this weekend and posting more information asap. really looking forward to this event!

No problem. One of the guys from the vendor committee is going to be contacting all the vendors to confirm how many gallons of saltwater (and whatever else) you will need. We will provide the saltwater for you guys during set-up.

Sorry guys, I promised to post up the schedule a good week or so ago. Working on all the details of this has been a little crazy!
Schedule of Events:
8:00 Doors open / registration / checkout vendors and raffle prizes
9:00 Randy Reed: "Fundamentals of Feeding your Reef"
10:30 Peter Kordelski: "Sandbeds and Refugiums"
11:30 Lunch
1:00 Frank Burr: "SPS Made Simple"
2:30 Adelaide Rhodes: "Copepods"
4:00 Murray Camp: "Overview of Probiotic and Carbon Dosing Methodologies"
5:15 Raffle announcements, closing remarks
5:30 Conclusion
We are expecting that each speaker will have one hour for the presentation and a 10-minute Q&A session after, which leaves a 20-minute window for checking out the raffle prizes and shopping the vendors.

Also, is there going to be other vendors besides what's been listed? Any local vendors?
this list has not been finalized. some of the previously confirmed vendors may not make it unfortunately, but we have added some others and have some other "probably will attend" vendors. bottom line, until a vendor has confirmed with payment of vendor fees or shows up, we don't know 100% that they will be there. regardless, it will be a great day of information and a nice raffle.

Guys,
Am I odd in thinking it's strange that the charter members don't at least get the ability to buy tickets slightly cheaper than the public, if even keeping the same price as pre-sale for those coming at the door? Maybe I'm completely out of line, and in all honesty none of us would really miss those few extra dollars, it's just odd that as a charter member we don't get any sort of 'thanks for supporting the club that's holding the event'

Guys,
Am I odd in thinking it's strange that the charter members don't at least get the ability to buy tickets slightly cheaper than the public, if even keeping the same price as pre-sale for those coming at the door? Maybe I'm completely out of line, and in all honesty none of us would really miss those few extra dollars, it's just odd that as a charter member we don't get any sort of 'thanks for supporting the club that's holding the event'
I don't think you are odd. :)
Like you I don't miss the extra couple of bucks though and I know how costly events like these are so I don't mind contributing to covering the cost at all -even as a charter member. I do love the idea of charter member perks (like store discounts, etc.) but I don't expect it for every single thing MAAST puts on -especially when it's something BIG like this that is going to cost the club quite a bit but also offers something extraordinary.
I am impressed that the events committee got so many awesome speakers! The vendor list is growing. I really am super excited to be able to attend something like this so close to home!
And when I see Kristy (the head honcho of events coordinators for MAAST who probably put several weeks worth of work into this) on the prepaid list then I really don't feel like I got anything to complain about.
So I fully agree with bullstedman.
I think it's totally okay to feel like charter members should have gotten an extra perk even though I don't share that concern. I think it's great that EVERYBODY has a chance to get 5 bucks off by conveniently just paying early online. I mean it can't really get a whole lot easier than that, right?

The raffle will be done in stages, with the big stuff at the end. I will ask Kristy (events coordinator) and the BOD and see if we have a must be present to win policy. More to come...

You do have to be present to claim your prize. But the way the raffle will be structured, there will be prizes drawn throughout the day with the biggest ticket grand prize items being the ones drawn at the very end. Your options would be to only put your tickets in for the items being drawn earlier in the day OR find a VERY trusted friend who would claim your prize for you (and would actually tell you that you won something!)

Any out of towners who are looking for a hotel can get in on the group rate we are getting at Hilton Palacio del Rio (right across the street from the Convention Center) for $129/night. Just call 1-800-HILTONS and give them the discount code "MAA" (as in the first three letters of MAAST) to make your reservation. Anyone who has every stayed at a nice hotel on the Riverwalk knows how deeply discounted that is!

There are a number of parking garages within a block or so of the Convention Center. Our event is in rooms 101 - 103, which are right where the Riverwalk meets Market Street (directly across from the statue of Samuel Compers, you know the one, right? Me either!).
Closest parking to that entrance would be the city parking "Marina Garage" (at the corner of Market and Bowie Streets) for $8/day.
Probably a cheaper option and just as easy would be to park at the Rivercenter Mall parking garage on Commerce St. and then walk across the bridge over the river in that small park that divides Commerce St. and Market St. Not sure how much that garage costs (will update tomorrow) because I've always been able to get my ticket validated by popping into a store and park for free (no purchase required)!
Either of these options is less than a block to our event's front door.

Very nice! Thanks for doing this. Will the moon jelly glow at all? *crossing fingers* :)
It is the focal point for the blacklight and pitch black but subdued in normal lighting and the reef is the focal point. So the focal point flipflops with the different lighting.
The 4 circles of the jellyfish glow strong and bright with the remaining parts of the jelly fading in and out.
Thanks for the comments...I enjoyed painting this and just happy anyone would be interested in bidding on my work.
