I'm looking for a few good fish that won't jump outa my rimless frag tank. I just lost a clown a week ago, and now I'm hesitant to stock. I would prefer an algae eater - but blennies are out of the question. I'm thinking a really small kole or scopas. Any sugesstions?

I have had a starry blenny for about a two months without any issues in my rimless. The only fish I lost was a corris wrasse. I also have black/white clown, green chromis, and strawberry psuedo.

How much room do you have from from waterline to top of tank? I've lost two starry blennies over the years. The second had to work magic to get out.

I've never seen the PJ Cardinals jump (don't eat algae though)

Dang, maybe my clown was just suicidal? Amazing your starry hasn't took a leap. Do your light fade to off or shut right off. Third Coast mentioned the possiblity off lights being a factor.

I've had the clowns for several years with no jumping. Then I added a tang and it frightened the clowns and suddenly they jumped like once a day. Got rid of the tang and no more jumping.
Really depends on what else is going on in there

Why dont you use that screen to prevent them from jumping out of the tank? If you look hard enough you will see that just about every fish will jump for one reason or another.

Ya, but my clown was the only guy in the tank. He had been in there for over a month with no issues. Weird thing is he commonly hung out around the top of the tank, but the last week before his demise he was around the middle. I just think something startled him - but what?? who knows...

The screen seems like it would be a pain - get dirty and kill the rimless look. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to put another fish in danger..and I agree, just about any fish can jump. I might keep it basically fishless and just add some inverts - maybe a mandarin to eat pods and add nutrients for the zoas's.

Clowns tend to host in corners near the tops of tanks when they are not hosting in something. No idea why, but they do seem to like corners alot.

I have had a mandarin jump before,.....I think it was due to my rabbitfish though...just saying though

I had a 3 year old green mandarin jump and he was the only inhabitant other than some stars, hermits and corals...I had trained him on frozen etc. Could not believe it.

We have also had a mandarin jump... fish are just suicidal. We have had several fish jump straight up through our eggcrate tops and other jump and manage to hit the tiniest spot to go carpet surfing... :(

Well, I decided to put a super small butterfly in my frag tank, and so far so good. He's a beaute, and is eating and doing swell. He came from a dive I went on which makes him extra special.
