I need a skimmer stand for my sump (water level too high in the area I want to keep the skimmer in)
Anybody know somebody that does super small projects like that?

I could if you gave me the size needed and skimmEr model

I probably should be more descriptive in case my project is too involved.

The Skimmer is an Elos NS 2000
http://www.elosusa.com/store/product/130/ns-2000-with-pump-eheim-1260

I am not sure if you can tell bu the Skimmer has some square acrylic plates (1 on the bottom and 1 towards the top) that are pretty heavy duty. It would be great if the stand could match that heavy-duty feel (like 1/2" acrylic instead of 1/4")

It also has holes for screws in the bottom plate. If I can find nylon screws and nuts at Home Depot it would be awesome if the skimmer stand could have matching holes so I can mount the skimmer onto the stand.

Another thought was circulation and use of space. I figured it would be cool if the stand was tall enough to just slide the pump underneath to save space.
And rather than have solid sides maybe have a hole in the middle of the sides so water doesn't get stagnant in there.
Maybe that's not a problem though if the pump sucks the water in anyway...

I painted the skimmer stand blue just to show which part is skimmer/which is stand:

Is that a good/doable skimmer stand design? Or what do skimmer stands usually look like?

Nice thoughts Karin. To add to the stand...you don't want solid sides anyways because you will block water flow and movement. I think I might do the same for my skimmer in both tanks. I like the idea of placing the pump in the stand.

I just put one in with solid sides, just made sure to put them with the flow. Plus with the biopellets you will have added flow around the skimmer from the reactor. Just my opinion

I am somewhat limited on where to put it so I wanted to keep my options open as far as 'in the flow' goes by leaving the sides open.
So I can plop it anywhere I find a big enough spot without worrying about flow.

Can I drill acrylic with a regular drill bit?

Yea you can drill, just have to be careful not to crack it. Probably wouldn't happen or less it's made with thin stuff. Mine is 1/4" sorry no pics of the stand out of the sump.

This is how I did mine, but with an extra support in the center but don't think it was needed.

You can also use egg crate to make a stand.

Oh that would be too easy, lol

I am kind of sad that I have to use a stand so I wanted to ease my pain by getting something spiffy looking...

Skimmer stand was the best thing I have done. The skimmer works alot better, but I lifted the pump aswell.

Yeah I was suprised about the instant improvement I got when I moved the skimmer from the (very high water) skimmer compartment to the (much lower) refugium area.
I purchased the skimmer from somebody that got a complete Elos system and judging by the length of the silicone hose that connects to the pump and the screw holes on the bottom plate I am thinking the skimmer would have been mounted elevated in the Elos sump with the pump below (because the silicone hose is much too long to just go to a pump sitting next to it).

my skimmer specs have a specific depth that the pump is suppose to be located for the skimmer to function optimally. Have you looked into this for your skimmer?

1+ look this up, because the pumps have different air draws at different depths. I cant remember who but there was a thread a while back when somebody had a Coralife super skimmer and couldnt get it to work right and they had to adjust the pump height to what the manufacturer suggested. After that it started skimming like a champ apparently. I would email elos probably hte quickest/easiest way to find out, if you there isnt a spec sheet to be found

Looks nice JT!
Randy and Jesse I have the manual for this skimmer. While most skimmers rely on needlewheel impellers the NS 2000 work with a regular pump (have the usual needlewheel ASM for the small tank).
I makes little difference for the Elos NS because the double chamber, air supply and and downdraft infection all takes place in the skimmer chamber itself.
It's the needlewheel pumps that use injection up and via transport to the skimmer so the supply varies more from needlewheel skimmer.
What is important with the Elso ES is for the outlet to be above the water level rather below water level.
